View Full Version : Sides of tongue are sore?
Ok, so this happens every now and again; the sides of my tongue get sore and it hurts to eat....even when my tongue's just sitting in my mouth it hurts :-/
Worried it might be some strange infection or something....help?

Do you clench/grind your teeth a lot when you're anxious, nervous? Or in your sleep?
Probably Herpes Simplex, Had this very recently after my kids picked it up from a play group. I had never had this before then. My tongue was sore all around the edge for around 2 weeks. Hurt to eat, talk anything.
If it is that, its not much to worry about it will pass like any virus passes, Mouthwash (although it stings) does help, I found chewing gum to be the best thing to sooth this, maybe from it creating saliva.
Grinding or clenched jaw through anxiety or a bad bite.
I get it all the time and seen a specialist over it.
I'd say the same as Andrash and Hypo, I get this because of my clenching.
I also get sores on the side of my tongue through jaw clenching. I do it in my sleep. I bet it's that, especially if it's on both sides.
