ANTICIPATORY ANXIETY

Been for checkup two weeks ago.
Dentist found one problem with an old filling
That was allowing food to gt stuck between my teeth.
So wanted to renew the filling.

I don't have a prob with dentist, pain, needles etc
My prob is staying in the one place without panicking
And wanting to runnnnnnnnnn!!
I go through did stages.

Waiting room.....wanting to run
Dentists chair after injection.....wanting to run
During and after drilling is the worst, cos with the above
I CAN run and it wouldn't be much of a prob

BUT

Once I have a hole drilled.....I can't run.....I HAVE to stay
And the pressure of this puts me in major panic mode!!

So I have had two weeks building myself up to panic about this filling
And then the dentist surgery phoned this morning. Saying the DENTIST
Will unfortunately not be in tomorrow!!

All anxiety disappeared in a second.

Which I know is ridiculous.
I will still have to go next week
But
My 'execution' has been staved

One hour on from the phonecall
And I am getting to the 'pathetic' stage.

I have never, not had checkups, dental treatments etc
But OMG what I out myself through with anticipatory anxiety
WHAT A TOTAL WASTE OF TIME!!!!!

I had the opposite thing happen recently.... I was just expecting the dentist to take impressions for a bridge .... So I wasn't exactly nervous. So then he announced just a little injection to numb you up and then a little drilling!!!! Arrrggghh. But I survived. I do know what you mean. It is the anticipation. I go next week for my bridge to e fitted. I know he will drill again excuse the temp filling has to come out, but I am not even thinking about it, I am usually ok til the morning bites e got into the practice of just not letting myself obsess over what's going to happen net.

Thanks everyone,
Yes I do try to do deep abdo breathing and muscle relax my shoulders, hands etc. with varying degrees of success.
My dentist, however is very time savy,
And has previously given me a numbing injection, then asked me to wait in the very busy waiting room, while he fits in a 'check up patient'!!!!
I know I could ask him not to, but I am sooooo not assertive.
I was in some state in that waiting room!!
But
As usual,
I didn't run out
Faint
Go mad
Or die!!

Just did it and lived to tell the tale.

I really, really wish I could learn fron each even
But
Each time it's the same negative anticipation!!

Can I also just say...I get the same negative anticipation at happy events too.
Parties, weddings etc
