Hi,

I've recently been worrying about ovarian C, because of my stomach discomforts. I saw my doctor yesterday and explained. She first of all said, if you want the blood test that checks it I'll do it for you. I said no, I was too scared to have it. She said it would be negative and she's offering it because she knows what I'm like and that I'll keep thinking about it (clearly she was correct!). Anyway, she gave me an abdominal exam, felt around my tummy and pelvis area and said everything felt nice and soft, no masses.
By the end she said she wasn't offering me the test because she doesnt 'think' I have it. Now I know it's classic HA to focus on this one word, out of everything she said, but I just am.
She said by the time symptoms do present with ovarian C, a person would be pretty unwell, loss of appetite, nausea and so on. None of which I have.
She said I should go on a diet and start training, which I started today. I'm about a stone over what I should be, she says this is why my tummy sticks out a bit, not because of bloating.
She also said that I need to start living. And that I'm a lot stronger than I think. She said there's no point in worrying like this and ruining my life over something I absolutely cannot control. I wish I could just keep this in my head!
Sorry for ranting. The main point of the post is, she doesn't think there's anything wrong does she? She said come back in a month for a chat and see where I am. This is ok isn't it? X

She thinks there's nothing wrong.
But I still can't shake it. When I tap on the right side of my tummy it sounds hollow, the left side sounds more flat. What does this mean? I feel I should go back to see her. I'm panicking again :(

LF, the doctor did a thorough exam. Please trust your physician. Start to live your life. Kick anxiety out and think about those irrational thoughts that you are having. Replace those with rational thoughts. Find something to make you laugh. You can do this.

I'm really trying to. She just felt my stomach on Wednesday.
I've got that awful niggle, that maybe she just did it to make me feel better, and she wasn't doing it properly. That sounds awful. Doctors can't do that can they?

I am just like you.
I've come,to the point where I don't know why I waste money going to the doctor anymore. Even specialists. Because I don't believe them when they say nothing is wrong.
If they manage to reassure me at all, the relief only lasts til I get to the parking lot.
By the time I get home, I'm positive they simply overlooked the problem.
I am so scared all the time, this sucks so bad, I hate my life.
And it's worse when it involves worrying about the health of my children.
Oh god, it's much, much worse. I can't stand it anymore.

That's a really positive drs apt! Also by the sounds of it you have a really lovely Dr :) I completely understand what you mean about struggling to accept what they say and I'm a fine one to say this but you HAVE to try and just accept it's all fine. Tummy discomfort is just a normal thing most of the time (but annoying, I know, I have IBS)

I often think, "did they feel that enough?" or "why aren't they feeling what I'm feeling" or they feel so quick I think they can't possibly have been thorough. But they're Doctors, and they're trained to know what to look for.. yes it's our body but we're not doctors :)

Thanks for these replies :)
Glasspinata, I've done pretty much exactly that. Came out quite happy, had a positive day yesterday, and last night it crept up on me. I started tapping my stomach and one side sounds more dull or hollow than the other. I'm really scared she's missed something and I have ovarian C.
Cut out stars, she is a wonderful doctor. Listens to everything I have to say and offers me the things I need for reassurance, (even if I do refuse them). She knows about my HA and does everything to try to help me.
Would she have noticed the hollow sound? Or should I go back? Sorry guys just stressing x

LF,

You're doing a very atypical HA thing I've seen on the boards here..... Getting reassurance and then question again. "I know they said blah blah blah but what if blah blah blah?????" Every one of your replies shows this :(

The answers aren't going to change nor will someone tell you for example, your doctor was wrong. The fact is, your doctor is right and you're fine....physically. A medical professional treats the physical. If you want to get better you need to seek a psychological professional. One that will help you control the thoughts that lead to doubt and worry.

You're totally right, I reckon if I went over every post I'd have said the same thing.
I don't know why I can't just accept what she's saying. I get scared she'll overlook things because of my HA. Like she's already decided in her head there's nothing wrong with me before ive even spoken.
That's silly isn't it? X

From what you've said it would seem she's overlooked nothing:)
