View Full Version : Teeth issues...scared!

I think there is something wrong with my teeth...I posted yesterday about a strange numbness in one side of my face. Well it's still there today.

A bit of back story about the teeth:
I haven't been to the dentist in years...bad it know but I'm petrified of them. In the past 6 months or so I have had pain in one of my top set teeth when eating/drinking hot or cold things, also occasionally sweet things too.
Sometimes when running or pounding the ground hard, I would get a shooting pain in my tooth.
Does this all sound serious? Coupled with the strange facial sensation I have been experiencing, which strangely enough seems to be made worse by bending over or leaning my head down...

I am so scared :( I hate dentists and any dental surgery...!

If you bend down or lean forward it will be made worse because the change in blood flow to head anxiety makes teeth pain worse and if you have face pain you might be clenching your teeth as your worry so much like i am now its giving me TMJ all ways good to have a dental check up nothing 2 it, your be fine :)

What do you think it might be?
I also suffer from TMJ - my jaw clicks loudly when I eat.

I don't think it is anything....I am not a dentist... and unless someone reading your post is actually a dentist you wont know what it is unless you get an opinion...... my GUESS is that it is a result of teeth clenching.... BUT as I said I am not a dentist or a doctor....

I have to agree with Sarah, it would be a good idea to go to the dentist, I have had a lot of problems with my teeth recently and it is important to have check ups. Let the dentist know how scared you are beforehand , they are used to dealing with nervous patients. x

I'm just so worried it's going to be something bad :( I don't want an operation or an extraction, root canal or something worse.

Problem is if you do need something doing like a filling or other treatment, leaving it will just make it worse. I know this from experience , it took me ages to go to the dentist but it was not as bad as I imagined .

Gotta be honest GA... besides seeing a dentist, lately, it sounds like you could really use some help :( You've been kinda all over the place with stuff in the last few days.... personal issues, UTI, insomnia and now this. Are you currently getting any help with your anxiety?... therapy, CBT or meds? If not, maybe a visit to your GP to speak about this or a referral or something.

Hope you feel better soon

Pain in the tooth could be sensitivity or a cavity.
You need to see a dentist, explain how nervous you are, honestly they don't bite :)

It's just one thing after another lately...literally. Maybe I'm being punished for something...
They've all been medical issues except the insomnia and personal issues...not really my fault :(

True, how about the pains/tight/numbish sensation in the face?

Not sure about that, could be TMJ, but I don't know a lot about it.
See a dentist though, sorting the teeth out will be one less thing to worry about.

I have to agree with Fishmanga...your posts lately have been symptom after symptom which we are not qualified to diagnose. Please go back to you doctor or therapist for a check up.

Good luck

Well I've had the urinary tract sorted as I am now on antibiotics...the insomnia was a symptom of the anxiety and I know that.
It has been a very stressful few weeks and I guess I am a little run down...I will go to the dentist, I will make an appointment on Monday, I'm just scared.

What did they have to do for the abscess? Scared now! Operation?!

GA,

Listen... Call the dentist, get an appointment and go. It's that simple. You have "discomfort", not debilitating mouth pain. You admit it's been a long time since you've seen a dentist so it's time to buck up and go. It's more than likely just some common dental issues that people get when they neglect their dental health... nothing serious.

Get that taken care of and then start on the head stuff. In the mean time, take a break from the computer, watch a movie or do something to take your mind off of things.

Not sure why we are on page 3 of a thread that has one simple answer - go and see the dentist, stop googling horror stories and you will get it sorted and be fine

It's not as easy as that :( I am going to call the dentist when they're open but it doesn't stop me from being frightened.

Hi there

I totally understand but like everyone has said- you should really go and get whatever this is checked out.
At least if you catch and get it sorted now you won't have to worry about future problems

I am terrified of dentists and even of toothache. Honestly the panic was awful but in the end i knew i had to get the problem sorted. I had to have a root canal and had it done under gas in the end. It was fine and i was so glad to get it sorted. Try and look also for a dentist who specialises with nervous patients.

I would go to the doctors and ask for some Diazapam, explain you are terrified, make the appointment and take it an hour before.
It will help.

I know you don't want to hear the worst but it may not even be anything that bad. I had an abscess once and i was given anti-biotics to clear it up before it got any worse. Plus the sooner you get it sorted the less you will have to worry.
Honestly, it's the best thing to do

xx

Hey..was in exactly the same way last year..had pain, numbness, jaw pain..hadn't been for years and imagined I had all sorts..infection, absess, would lose my teeth, the lot!
I went...nothing wrong! Dentist said..are you suffering from anxiety?! He said he thought I had been grinding my teeth. Whenever I feel anxious I worry about my teeth..currently I think they are wobbly..they're not!!
Get an emergency appointment for tomorrow...it will either be fine or they will treat you..either way it will be fine.
Stay strong x
