Bah Humbug!

Anyone else hate Christmas or am I the only 'Scrooge'?

I'm visiting my parents in Edinburgh over the festive period and can you imagine the commotion I caused when I told 'The Olds' that the wife and I weren't going to sit down to turkey and Brussels sprouts with them but were going for an Indian on Xmas Day!

Turkey and trimmings, Xmas pudding, mince pies .... no, keema nan, lentil dahl and spinach bajhi!:D

Happiness and light to all,
'Chopper'

I saw her once, one little while, and then no more:
’Twas Eden’s light on Earth a while, and then no more.
Amid the throng she passed along the meadow-floor:
Spring seemed to smile on Earth awhile, and then no more;
But whence she came, which way she went, what garb she wore
I noted not; I gazed a while, and then no more!

I'll take the Ruby anyday!

Turkey, is foul! <----- see what I did there?

Anyhoo - Christmas is just a commercialised time of year which costs a stoopid amount of money, there is so much pressure to get everything 'Just So'.

Ban it FTW!

I agree entirely Ross, it's just another bad reason to get into debt![}:)]

Rather than overcooked veg and stupid paper hats, pulling crackers with Granny and watching James Bond I'll be tucking in at Voujon(http://www.voujon.com/index.php) and walking around a probably deserted Edinburgh. Bliss!:D

And anyway, it's just some geezer's birthday!!:D

Which is quite Ironic when he wasn't born December 25th anyways!

The date of December 25 was first mentioned in the time of Constantine about A. D. 325

So in fact, even the name Christmas in phony, as Christ plus Mass (meaning a religious service in commemoration of the birth of Jesus) didn't actually happen then!

Listen to you two bloody scrooges, you both sound like your 90 LOL.

Christmas is for the kids really and to see their faces light up on christmas morning is so worth every penny and the weeks of build up too it.

Trac is right, but people like me just have to put up with it!

I don't have any kids in my extended family and never had have.

My Dad has the right idea and just treats like Christmas like any other day, except he can't go shopping!

Is there a spare table at the Voujon :D

It is just another day - it does not need to stress anyone. If you don't like it then ignore it. The worst that will happen is Tesco's is shut! Well for one day lol

We all remember ones we have lost at Xmas but why? Don't we remember them all year long and remember how good it was last year and how it was our last Xmas ever with our nan, grandad, mum, dad, husband, wife, daughter, son, partner, niece, nephew etc etc

You make out of Xmas what you want to.

Yes we can sit and say "this time last year my dad was alive and we never knew it was his last" or "this time last year I was happy and now i am not". So what? Move on and forget it. It is one or 2 days and the majority of us have family to share it with and kids to see so happy. If you don't then I am sorry if I offended anyone - that was not my intention.

I get more depressed over Mothers day, valentines day, fathers day, easter, halloween, the day my dad died, his birthday etc etc

Come on let's keep this in check - it is 2 days and we can all survive that - easter is a long 4 day weekend!! and no-one complains about that.

Anyway - to cheer you all up read there are these posts -one is hilarious...

I don't get worked up about any holiday. I never kept up Mothers and Fathers Day as they are just an excuse to keep the greetings card people in business - we can thank them anytime of year, can't we?

Nic, Christmas is not two days, its at least 28 and the trees and other commercial reminders are out there already! Sadly, it has lost its meaning for many now, and seems to be a way of sucking people into debt.

I don't get caught up in any sad anniversaries, its just that I wish I could take the whole of December off and be in Morocco or somewhere:D

I know it would be different if I had kids around me in some shape or form.

OK, I shall shut up now lol

Happy Crimbo;)

Morning all,

I knew this topic would get the posts flowing!;)

As a grumpy old Jock, I've never really celebrated Xmas (Hogmanay was always a bigger deal!:)) so my kids have never been subject to the hype that accompanies the festive season.

We don't buy presents just because 'tradition' suggests we do, if my kids want something at any time of year then, if they deserve it, they get it .... they don't have to wait until the end of the year to enjoy something.

This might lighten the mood somewhat .... Newcastle United season tickets are like gold dust and two supporters were surprised to find an empty seat between them at the start of the season in August. Still no occupant in September, October, November and December. The Boxing Day fixture comes along and there's a black and white scarfed supporter between them. His wife had bought a season ticket for him in July but kept it as "a nice surprise for Christmas"!![Oops!] Women, eh?[:P]

I think I upset someone with my post. I didn't mean to - sorry.

Ray - it started in September in Asda lol when they got the Cards out!

My mum used to end up with a house-full cos they would go to the pub for a Christmas drink and she would come home with anyone and everyone that was sat in the pub looking lonely and saying they didn't have anyone to spend Xmas with. We always ended up with an additional 2 or 3 people for dinner.

I don't mind Christmas but I can't say I love it or hate it. The best bit is seeing my niece and nephew open their presents. The worst bit is all the travelling that Alex and I do to all the various relatives as no-one seems to come and see us lol.

We seem to spend 3 days travelling from one house to the next to make sure we see everyone but we get used to it I suppose.

Anyway I am sorry if I upset anyone with my post - that wasn't my intention and I hope you liked Charlies Xmas post - it makes me laugh everytime I read it.
