Ugh i tell you its one punch after the next.

the last 3 days ive been having a horrid time with getting stuck swallowing, but only when i try to do when not necessary. for example when i eat and drink its fine. but a lot of the time when im not eating or drinking i get "stuck" where i try to swallow and nothing happens.. then panic sets in however i am able to disable the effects fast because ive been reading the online CBT you guys offer here, but its extremely annoying to say the least.

my Anxiety has gone from

heart pains and heart attacks
stomache pains and Colon cancer
now swallowing issues

the heart pains went away mostly after i saw the cardiologist and told me my heart was just fine. recently ive been fighitng the abdominal pains and now that all the tests i could have done have come back completely normal my mind is looking for replacement problems.

now its stuck on not swallowing normal.

when does this get better? when will i run out of things to mentally have problems with..

i was hoping this whole Colon cancer bit would be the last of my issues with CBT..

any experience on the not swallowing bit? and advice on how to defeat it?

Hello,
I have definitely experienced the not being able to swallow sensation a couple of times throughout the years. I even remember having it when I was a lot younger. And it's the exactly the same, I'm fine eating and drinking but if I focus on swallowing when I don't have to I get the feeling that I can't swallow. It also does put me in a panic for a few seconds.

I would honestly not try to worry about it. I mean it's been happening for many years to me and it hasn't gotten worse. I think it's all just in our minds, and it only becomes worse when we begin to think about it.

How are your stomach pains? I've had them a lot throughout the last two months but I found peppermint oil capsules work wonders!! Especially if you have gas and pains. :)

thanks for the reply,

i was given a strong dose of an antibiotic for a root canal and according to my specialist it can take a long time to rebuild all the good flora in there.. ive been eating fermented foods and taking probiotics to help rebuild the process so far the combination of the two has been working well.

ive seen peppermint mentioned on here a lot, is there a brand that people use or just whatever you can find sort of deal?

funny, i used to have this problem when i was younger as well and its strange that it would just show up again out of the blue!

Glad to hear that the combination is working well. :)

The peppermint works so well. I didn't really look into brands but the one I have is called Pepogest. I purchased it at one of those health stores that sell natural medicines as well as protein, and whey. I recommend it. :)

Different sensations can come and go. I feel like as a kid we probably get them but since we are very care free at that age we tend to not worry too much about it. I definitely wish we still had that type of thinking when it comes to HA.

do you take the peppermint as needed or daily to prevent?

yes that was a wonderful time, back when i could fall out of a tree and say ouch and be back in the game within 10 minutes.. now its like crap better get the ER because i have cut a main artery! lol

It says to take it 1-4 times daily and 30 minutes before your meal. I've only been taking it twice a day and it works amazing.

Haha, I know what you mean....I was talking about this with someone on here yesterday. I remember playing ring around the Rosie and never getting dizzy...now I can just get up too fast or walk around and feel dizzy. Lol

I've got GAD, OCD & depression, not HA but I have definately had periods where this has happened.

I remember reading that it was an anxiety symptom in the same way that other bodily sensations are. I guess the difference for me is I would think "oh no" but I wouldn't associate it with anything further.

I've not had it for ages, it was at my worst points, so I suspect it may be a matter of relaxation to move beyond that stage. Thats sounds about right because you are consciously trying to do it as opposed to the subconscious times when you are eating & drinking.

If you swallow a few times and keep going, eventually this can happen. I'm wondering if it's just due to the trauma in that area and like you say, you are buiilding it back up again?

It's the same with breathing. I know I have a lot of trouble taking very deep breathes and feel I just can't push any further.

So, maybe it's related to just being on that high alert we are on with anxiety.

If so, deep breathing exercises, breathing control exercises and forms of relaxation may help. Mindfulness meditation may be useful.

Worth a go but it probably won't take it away for a little bit of time.
