i have been feeling a lot of depersonalization/derealization lately. it seems only to be getting worse. i open my eyes in the morning and question everything, like: why am i here, is this even real? what is the meaning of life? type of questions. this symptom has only come on in the past month but i dont want to continue like this!! it really really frightens be and i feel like now it is what brings on my panic attacks. does anyone else get this feeling and if so what did you do about it?

Hi Lauren,

I think I know how you feel, I often find myself 'detatched' from life but it's a difficult feeling to articulate isn't it?

I'm not sure if it's part of the underlying problem or a side effect of the medication but, fortunately, in my case at least, it's an infrequent occurrence.

Hope you find a solution and take as much hope and enlightenment from these forums as I do.

Happiness and light to all,

I saw her once, one little while, and then no more:
’Twas Eden’s light on Earth a while, and then no more.
Amid the throng she passed along the meadow-floor:
Spring seemed to smile on Earth awhile, and then no more;
But whence she came, which way she went, what garb she wore
I noted not; I gazed a while, and then no more!

Hi Lauren

I have had this feeling many times, and i know how awful it can be.

Have you been to see the gp about how you feel?

I know its hard, but when you wake up in the morning try and think about positive things, like what good things you will be doing today or even what positive things you have done in the last weeks,
Its certainly your negative thoughts that are making you feel like this, im glad you found this site Lauren, im sure you will get lots of great help here to help you on the road to recovery.

Lauren,

I get this alot and sometimes wonder if i had a stroke..but in the end its only anxiety..Best thing.. just keep saying and believing to yourself...THIS IS ONLY A TEMPORARY FEELING ..IT WILL GO AWAY.. try to concentrate on anything else.. even counting .. and maybe looking at a painting and tracing the lines with your eyes..thinking about something that happened recently that was pleasant..anything but concentrating on that feeling.. i assure you it will go away..I have had this sometimes for days.... I used to think that meds brought it on..but now I know its probably adrenlaine..Like i said just keep repeating what i wrote to yourself and think about anything.. .I get this when watching television sometimes out of the blue..and try to just chat with someone about anything and get into the conversation..call a friend.. chat with a neighbor anything and it will take your mind off of it.. First thing and last thing at night start counting 1000 backwards or the tiles on the ceiling or the dots on the walls.. and it will help..I promise you it will go away..fought with this really bad the first time around 30 years ago and well it comes and goes lately my worries are more stroke than losing my mind.. but i know that its not that and i have to fight it too..dont give up its not over till the fat lady sings...we are here for you ..

Hi Lauren,
This is my worst symptom and one of the hardest to cope with. The feelings are horrible. I feel like I am in a dream and everything is just so overwhelming. It makes me question my sanity. For me the best thing I can do is to tell myslef that it is just anxiety and then I distract myself. I have to do something that requries focus so that I am not thinking about my symptoms. You are not alone.
Take care,
Michelle
