I have anxiety, so I went to the doctors about a worrying mole, was referred to the hospital but was too anxious to go so stupidly I just ignored it, through fear.

I mean they didn't get back to me or anything, the doctor had a look at my mole and said it could be a certain type of mole, that she thinks it was, she did not say it was anything bad...just gave the name of the type of mole she thought it could be.

It's definitely one of those abnormal ones, and tbh I need it removed..

How can I get myself to go back about it and be referred again? Because if anyone has any ideas of how I can get the confidence to, then maybe I could just mention it at my appointment when I'm going about something else...

Im just worried that even if it was ok that it wouldnt be now, which is making me more anxious.

And i looked at private places even, but its gonna be 500 quid to have it done there, and it wouldn't make the anxiety any different probably. If its free on nhs then may as well, and there's another ugly one on my wrist I should get seen too... and I'm sure they'd remove both of them as they're both worrying...

I just need to do it somehow...

You need to go back to the doctor and get them to refer you again

You ought to go back. I know it's hard, I paid 100£ to see a private dermatologist who told me mine were fine, in all likelihood they are just normal moles, unless by ugly you mean it's changing and becoming ugly? Your dr will understand anxiety and will refer you again if he/she thinks necessary :)

I have a lot of ugly normal moles. The most worrying ones can be the most benign!

Did you ever go back?

I went to the doctors for the same exact reason and I've just come back from my Dermatology referral and the abnormal mole I went for was looked at first by the registrar dermatologist and then the consultant dermatologist and they both agreed it wasn't cancerous. They just look at it with a high powered lense. You NEED to have it looked at immediately as Melanoma caught early is easily treatable but left it becomes deadly. Go back to your GP and they will give you another referral it is deadly important that it is looked at.

It might be worth asking the surgery if there any GPs there that perform minor surgeries and such.

If it's really bothering you, tell them it's causing you pain to the touch or sumat and they will remove it with persistence. Someone i know did that.

If you are worried please asked to be referred to have it removed/ looked at, I agree with comments to say it is causing you pain when touched, catching on clothes etc.

My mum did this with a couple of lumps she had, these were NF lumps, I got one which was looked at the GP and would like it removing, even though it not a serious lump I hoping the GP will refer me but where it is it may cause me more damage and harm.

I've had two "suspicious" moles. One was removed and biopsied (by quick & painless local anaesthetic); the results were totally clear. The other, I was referred to hospital where consultant looked at the mole (under a mini telescope like thing) and was able to tell me straight away that it was fine; it didn't even need biopsied.

By far the worst thing about both experiences was my anxiety leading up to it. The actual appointments and results were fine and I was glad I went.

Sounds like you already know that you should go back to doctor, and just want confidence to do so.

When I am worried about going to doctor or having tests I sometimes tell myself following. Not sure if any of this would help anyone else, but it seems to help me a bit.

I tell myself...

Don't worry too much about the past, that the important thing is to go to doctor now.

Take it one step at a time. Step 1 is to make the appointment. You can do that. Then step 2 is to go along. Break the rest into small steps and focus on getting through each one. If you feel overwhelmed, just focus on the next small step.

Pick a date a few weeks into the future (when you think you'll have the results back) and focus on getting to that date. That date will come around anyway. You can either face the fear now, and by that date hopefully know that things are ok; or you can do nothing now and when the date comes, still not know, probably still be worried and probably still want to go to doctor anyway.

While waiting for appointments or results, try to calm yourself down (e.g. by telling yourself it's unlikely to be serious, that people get referred to hospital all the time, it just means seeing a specialist doctor, and that it's very rarely serious).

I was convinced that my moles were serious, they were fine. Chances are yours will be too. So be brave, take that 1st step, make the appointment now and hopefully in a few weeks, you'll know you're fine and can hopefully put this behind you.

I went for my referral this morning and I was exactly the same until the dermatologist said she thinks its fine so without even having to be asked she fetched the consultant who confirmed it was completely fine.
