It could certainly be a combination of gas pain and muscle related issues.
Tense muscles in which area?

Gas pain can trigger pain in almost any area of the abdomen however, usually the upper left and right quadrants. Back pain is also common with this so wouldn't get alarmed :).

My advice is to have some peppermint tea if possible to relive any pain try to lay down flat on your back if possible as this will help allow the gas to escape! which will relieve your pain :-P.

I don't think this sounds any more sinister than simple gas pain, I think you hit the nail on the head with that.

Do you have any medical history or existing problems? Stomach ulcers?

I get gas all the time, and it transpires in many different ways, I.e gut pain, rib pain, heartburn... At risk of sounding tmi, you'll probably have a jolly good fart in a few days, and relief will be yours.

Go for a long, brisk walk. That'll get things moving.
