Does anyone else dread using the telephone, or opening emails or post. I seem to have an irrational fear, I wondered if anyone else experiences this?

I'm terrified of using the phone and opening emails that are from people I don't know. I also have a phobia of answering the door to people who randomly show up eg sales people, delivery person. I'm ok answering the door to people like my family or friends.

I wouldn't call mine a phobia but it definitely makes me tense.

I always refuse to open the door unless I am expecting someone. I guess it is a fear of the unknown...I also have an irrational fear that I am in trouble for something and that stops me from answering anything.

I have a telephone interview this week...got to be my worst nightmare! I would rather face them in person! xx

Also hate answering the phone, using the phone. I get strange looks why I don't have a mobile phone, because one of my conditions I have I been advise not to use a mobile phone.

Doors I don't like answer the door to people I don't know. I don't like using intercoms either.

I don't like talking on the phone as I prefer texting because that way I don't have to have a long pointless conversation lol I don't like phoning people and if someone calls me I won't pick up because if it's important they'll ring back lol

Oh my God this is me too ! I never ever answer the phone and delete emails unopened. Its the fear that it will always be bad news. I dont open mail either, especially bank statements! Thank God its not only me. Even had 3 mobile turn off my answer phone cos i will never listen to messages ! Hey maybe this is the root of my anxiety....the fear of bad news. Hell I've never thought of that before. Thank you for starting this thread.

I'm so pleased, (well not really pleased cos it's a pain) that there are others out there that understand! I much prefer face to face communication- it feels safer somehow?.

Speaking on the phone , internet is better as it's easier to get rid of them

shannabanna
04-06-14, 14:04
Yeah much easier.

Exactly

shannabanna
04-06-14, 14:16
Yep much easier just to delete an email, than to hang up on someone

I'mdave27
04-06-14, 14:19
You got it wrong. I would hang up if that person was annoying me or if I didn't want to talk I'd just say something happened to my phone. They rang me so if it's important they can either stop being annoying than ring back or just stop ringing altogether

I even fear listening to voicemails so I wouldn't know if someone was ringing with something important. I tend to just switch my phone off, stops the problem altogether lol

What's the point in owning a phone ?

shannabanna
04-06-14, 14:42
I don't mind text messaging so much, and can access the internet etc and ooo in case of emergencies lol!!

A teacher to be that's scared of phones , bizarre !

shannabanna
04-06-14, 14:46
Clearly, I have issues. It's not that bizarre, is it?

I'mdave27

Well it's a bit weird how you can be confident enough to be a teacher but can't talk on the phone. What will you when you need to ring someone's parents ?

shannabanna
04-06-14, 14:54
Well fact is I'm not a teacher yet because I do lack confidence. When I have to call people I have to go through the process of almost dialing, then hanging up until I summon the courage.

Lol

I bet if you won the lottery and had to ring them to arrange to collect the money you wouldn't have a problem with phones then

shannabanna
04-06-14, 15:17
I would, my hands would go all shakey and my voice! Especially cos a lottery win is life changing. I'd get my sis to ring as she sounds like me lol

Is that your advice Dave? Like exposure therapy,!

I'mdave27
04-06-14, 15:28
Nooo. My advice is throw away the phone and become a recluse !

shannabanna
04-06-14, 15:31
Ok, that sounds tempting. :-P

I'mdave27
04-06-14, 15:40
My vow of silence to recluse lifestyle starts now...

shannabanna
04-06-14, 15:43
Is that a polite way of hinting that I need to stop talking lol?

I'mdave27
04-06-14, 15:56
No ! I'm simply saying I'm going to reply or post a thread for 24 hours starting now. Stop analysing
