i have been panic attack free for the last 48hrs. i've been doing the 7/11 breathe thingy every hour and when i feel it coming i will fight it and deep breath as much as possible. i kept a positive mind that i won't die from this stupid attack. but i do feel tired fighting it seriously. when it build up i will feel that my chest area tightens and i will be gasping for air...chest pains! Throat tightening! Shakiness Headaches Insomnia! Dry Mouth! Excessive Swallowing! is it normal for an attack? it will last for 30mins and then i'll start burping out gas like a bomb. i m just afraid i'll die from this. i am a heavy smoker too..
i managed to be in a train alone and tried to control my panic. it was a hard fight and people look at me in a funny way but i overcame the most difficult moment of my life. i used to faint in the train like a girl. i've been losing weight because of this. please tell me and help me overcome my eating problem too. i have trouble swallowing food because i'm scared i'll choked to death. a plate of food will take me 40-45mins to finish but if i'm pissed of, i'll lose my appetite. i have gastritis too. what's the best method or way to overcome all this so i can make a chart in my room so i'll remember what i have to do to overcome these darkest moment of my life......i got no one to support me....no one....please.....make me smile.....again

Rkidsg: Great job on the train! Your not going to die! Ohhh I just thought of something, read the panic attack poem-its called PAM it was just recently posted. I loved it and I'm gonna try to remember that as I go to class tonight for my finals...

Sorry I'm kinda scatter-brained right now.... i'll come back later and write something better.

Cheer up!

If nothing else...I will survive.

Hi Iyan,
I have similar probs to you,I think that its a good start that you are trying to control your breathing. Regarding the eating difficulties I would try some relaxation before meals (i know this is sometimes difficult) disstraction is another helpful method ....as it steers you away from focussing on the eating process. The build up of gas you get can be a combination of over-breathing and also the way you are eating too, as i get this really bad ...i can feel air moving around my stomach and i get terrible pains from it. Do you have any form of therapy to help you i.e. CBT ? I hope things get better for you....it seems as if you are heading down the right path by taking control of the breathing ...keep working at it! thank you very much everyone! it's good to have friends like you guys who share problems even thought we are strangers but we aint strangers to these problems....by the way what's a CBT? yeah that's the problem i need to solve now. i'm just scared i'll choked to death...i don't have any solutions for it....i'm still having problems with the eating thing...i did have an attack just now with the 'devil' but he failed to take control of me. hahaha. i was tired and exhausted...my chest hurts...is that ok? the throat thing...it's GONE!

Hi Iyan,
CBT is a form of therapy which works on your thought/behaviour patterns (cognitive behaviour therapy) i dont know if it's available in your country you usually get referral from your doctor. As you probably are aware we have panic attacks and phobias because of distorted thinking patterns and beliefs ..well the therapist works on challeging and trying to alter these. Some people have very positive results from this treatment but it takes alot of hard work and commitment from ones-self , others have not benefitted but it's worth a try! Hope this helps. Well done getting on a train. I haven't been able to do that for over a year - I really admire your strength. I've never heard of 7/11 breathing, what is it?
You are NOT going to die. You are also not alone. I know that for me, the mental symptoms are much worse than the pyschial ones - I'm convined I'm going crazy.
But the one thing to remember is that crazy people don't know they're crazy - the very fact that you're worrying about it is proof of your sanity.
You can get better. And you will.
