New medication anxiety....

So I'm back on birth control pills for the first time in years. I just took my first one and I'm nervous because it's a kind I've never taken. Scared of some kind of allergic reaction. Is birth control typically pretty safe?

I've never heard of any serious issues with the contraceptive pill. Someone I knew found that it gave her more spots and a pretty nasty brown discharge, but it cleared up quickly when she went off them.
