Can't believe the Netherlands thrashed Spain!! What a result.

We have friends coming over for the England game tomorrow. Shall be awesome, regardless of whether we win or not.

The USA goes Monday, I think? I've heard we don't have a great shot though ... it's still fun to watch the matches though!

Play Rooney as a centre forward or leave him out, that would be my advice to Roy :)
Why have we always been poor down the left hand side?

I watched the first half of the England's game  it was boring.

I didn't stay up to watch it, we saw a recording this morning, glad I did it tht way round!!

I stabbed myself in the eye that day and only managed to watch the first half, and the second Italy goal in the second half. Hopefully our next game with Uruguay shall be much better, especially if Suarez doesn't play!

I'm an Englishman and proud but i must admit i always stick a bet on the Germans to win in every major tournament lol

Blagger Boy - my husband put a bet on German winning. After their triumph against Portugal it's certainly a good shout.

Their record playing in hotter climates ain't the greatest but they're always hanging about and worth a shot.

5/1 odds i got this year :P

I'm gonna enjoy the world cup before i have to go back to supporting the world class team of Carlisle United :D

Germany had some luck. I am sure that wasn't a penalty! They're always a good bet (tho it pains me to admit it).
Rennie, how on earth did u stub yourself in the eye, or was it out if frustration with England..!????

Oh dear, lol.

I'm a Liverpool fan. I'm very confused at the moment :/
Hard being on the wrong end of one of Suarez's fantastic goals.

Got to change it and play better 2nd half England or it's curtains.

COME ON ENGLAND !!!

Oosh, I'm a Liverpool fan too and I think he should have saved up his goals for the first game of the season.

I now have a scratched foot as when Rooney scored my husband shouted out and freaked the cat who just so happened to be sat on my foot!

Catherine S

Oh well that's ok then...a serious comment but with a smiley face, and why the heck not :)

Annie0904

Disgusting behaviour from Suarez, what a vile man!

Rennie1989
24-06-14, 22:09
Twitter is full of tweets and memes on it. Some are actually quite funny. But on a serious note if proven guilty he, firstly, needs to be charged with assault and, secondly, be banned from playing professional football forever. Behaviour like this makes me feel ashamed to even like football.

Annie0904
24-06-14, 22:19
I agree with you Rennie. This is the 3rd time now that he has done this. :(

Tessar
25-06-14, 21:45
I totally agree. When u think that if someone did that to another person in the street it would be classed as assault.
If he hasn't already learned his lesson by now, he never will.
I wouldn't want to play against someone like that.
I seriously hope they throw the book at him but sep Blatter is a lily-livered idiot so he will probably let him get away with it.

Four month ban and a £65,000 fine..... so that's a few days wage and a holiday. Times like this I really do hate football. If that happened in rugby he'd been ripped to pieces by the players, if that happened in cricket he'd be banned forever! What a great role model he is to our young generation.

(I feel better now)

Since we've been out of the World Cup I've been a little fed up with football. We have a TV in our coffee room at work and THANKFULLY we have Wimbledon on most of the time.

Tessar
28-06-14, 21:11
It's farcical ..... His ban should have been much longer. If any of us bit someone in the workplace, I am certain we'd be up on a gross misconduct charge!! I agree he is such a poor example...

Cracking game earlier, just feel sorry for Chile.

I have the Colombia vs. Uruguay game on mute while I listen to Metallica at Glastonbury. Even if you hate Metallica, it has to be better than ITV's commentary.

Not sure about the commentary, but Adrian Chiles... Cannot stand the guy... How he has forged a career as a football / sports host (or a host of any kind) is beyond me... So wooden and awkward it is ridiculous!

Fantastic goal in the match though :)

Tessar
29-06-14, 09:48
I'm with you on the itv commentary/Adrian chiles thing..... But then I always prefer the BBC's presentation of any event, be it news or sport. I shall definitely watch the final on BBC. Tho I hope we don't get a power cut in the middle of the match which happened to us many years ago!

Yes, other than sport I don't watch anything on ITV, and will avoid that as well, if I have other options :) Why can't they do ANYTHING well?!?

Tessar
01-07-14, 22:00
I think the bbc are just the best, so nothing else compares. It wouldn't matter how itv try dressing it up, they just can't manage it. When it comes to football, it's like the way they go for a commercial break just before kick off., talk about kill the atmosphere.

Oh I think chris waddle dyes his hair. Not that it matters but I was trying to work it out!

Magic

Why does there have to be so many men talking about the matches?
How much are they getting paid? xxxx

OMG... What a game! I have quite a few American friends and colleagues, so I was definitely rooting for you guys... Such a shame you couldnt get the equaliser... Came so close! The team can definitely go back home with their heads held high though - they gave it all and showed so much passion, heart and determination. Was a privilege to watch...

Anyone else thinking that the WC has been incredible so far?!? Almost every match has been a thriller! :)

In a weird way, I'm glad England didn't get through - have been able to sit back and enjoy things with no extra stress :roflmao: Also, I don't think we could have competed with ANY of the teams in the final 16 :weep:

AnxietyDJ..... I do agree about enjoying it more after England departed.
Swgrl... Tim Howard set a new record..... "The Everton shot-stopper's 15 saves against Belgium is more than any other player has made since records started being taken in 1966." Pretty cool huh? Looking 4wd 2 France v Germany on Friday :-)
Can't seem 2get in2 Wimbledon, I think it's coz the footie is taking precedence!

Tim Howard... Amazing! I can officially share the secret of his success....

:roflmao:

Have been watching quite a bit of Wimbledon, don't mean this to sound sexist (even though it really does), but for once I'm enjoying the women's matches a lot more than the men's... Has been some great games - Sharapova and Kerber was brilliant... Rooting for (Eu)Genie Bouchard now. Shame about Murray today... He played awfully :(

Catherine S
03-07-14, 02:35
Actually, I would have quite liked the US team to win the WC...they've been consistently brilliant :footy:

I love the pic of Howard :-)

I do know what you mean about the ladies at Wimbledon .... Sometimes for me, if the players are giving it their all & I get into the whole tournament I can enjoy all the matches whether its men or women. Shame no-one comes into the net much these days. I am too into the World Cup at the moment tho &' the Tour de France is about to start as well.

I must admit I do feel sorry for those poor Brazilian players but well done to Germany.

Rennie1989
09-07-14, 19:43
I feel awful, but I couldn't help but laugh during the game! Brazil played awfully, so disappointing from the home nation. The country was bagging on them doing well for the sake of the protesters and deflated citizens. I would be ashamed if I was one of the players.

But kudos to Germany! Hubby has money on them winning so I'm egging them on. I hope Holland win for a European and bloody final!

swgrl09
09-07-14, 20:48
That was insane! I wouldn't believe the score!! Makes the US look a little better for holding their own against Germany too :) But it is disappointing for the home country for sure.

AnxietyDJ
10-07-14, 00:51
Shame Holland didn't make it through tonight... Feel like Argentina were fortunate to even get to the semis (the same as Brazil!).

Really dull game - was hoping for another dose of yesterdays action :)
