I've been on 20mg of citatlopram for just over a month now. Last night I woke up, in what I assume to be a panic attack. I felt like I couldn't move was light headed, heart was pounding and felt suffocated. I went to the loo and then went back to bed and did go back to sleep, but now I'm worried incase it is a heart problem rather than a panic attack, surely citalopram should be working by now??

Hi
I am on 30mg Citalopram and still have PA's. They are mostly through the night now though. I think during the day I realise I am panicking so I consciously control my breathing so slow it down, but at night I don't make those same choices as I am sleeping.
It also took nearer two months and a raise to 30mg for them to work for me though.

No, meds won't block panic attacks.
I was worse on citalopram, it gave me blurred vision a lot, which always resulted in a panic attack.

Hi devon, some meds can make panic and anxiety worse when you first start them.Beta blockers help me alot, when the panic comes on.Some meds take a little while to settle down and to take affect.;)

Dev',

The Citalopram can take even longer to 'kick in' but, in my experience, it's worth persevering with.

They might not stop the panic attacks but they can take the edge of them, if you know what I mean? "Control the severity", that's a better way of putting it 'Chopper'!

Other than waking up on Wednesday night, are you sleeping OK on 20mg? The number of people who suffer with sleep problems on this particular medication must be enormous?[V]

I saw her once, one little while, and then no more:
’Twas Eden’s light on Earth a while, and then no more.
Amid the throng she passed along the meadow-floor:
Spring seemed to smile on Earth awhile, and then no more;
But whence she came, which way she went, what garb she wore
I noted not; I gazed a while, and then no more!

No I'm not particularly sleeping well, I wake up about 3am and that's about it till my alarm goes off. I never had this problem last time I took them. Perhaps it will wear off........

Dev',

I've had 'bad days' during the Autumn/Winter, every year since 2001, and this year have been using a Lightbox to simulate natural light - I've got it on now in front of my screen - and even if it is a placebo I've found that unlike a lot of people on Citalopram (I'm on 40mg a day) I'm sleeping well at night.

Since the clocks went back I've been using the box for longer each day (from 07:45 until, probably, around 12:00 today) and going to bed earlier each night. But even if my days are getting shorter at least I'm sleeping longer.

Happiness and light to you,

"Can you still panic on Citalopram"

Yup, you can! I'm on 40mg a day but on Tuesday afternoon I went for a lap of the building. Felt like sh***, came back to my desk 'till lunchtime then took my camera for a wander. I felt terrible, really sick, then actually was. Made my way back to work almost stumbling back, and when I got to my desk I thought I was going to faint. I came over all dizzy, panicking, trembling, sweating .... the works!

My colleagues realised I was having a 'turn' and called my missus who imediately came to collect me. For 'Health and Safety' reasons, they wheeled me to our car in a wheelchair!! Imagine the look on her face when she saw me?

Anyway, to cut a long tale shorter than I might normally, I had a really bad night on Tuesday and spent yesterday under the Duvet. I shaved and showered last night and this morning and have made it into work ....... so far. I think I'll talk to HR and see if I can work 'till lunchtime today and tomorrrow. Roll on the weekend.

I really can't see me making it to spring.

Happiness and light to you all,
