hi

can anyone tell me if you can have hypnotherapy whilst taking meds. my mum was told by a therapist it shouldnt be done. is this true or doesnt it make any difference?

i really want to try it and i am currently 7 days into taking citalopram.

also i read somewhere that it can cause more mental health problems including schizophrenia. is this true?

thanks

I can't see any reason why you can't as the two are not really related.

One is helping the brain (the anti-depressants) and one helps the mind - in simple terms!

It can't cause schizophrenia.

Hi Dawn

I am on Citalopram and also had 5 sessions of hypnotherapy while on them.

I can honestly say that it has been nothing but brilliant for me. I have gone from being agoraphobic to varying degrees to say for instance last week was my second week in a new job, I was out every night except one and I travelled up to London on the train on my own for the 1st time and managed to get to the nomorepanic meet up which took me a 3 hour drive.
Ok so it wasnt all down to the meds and hypnotherapy, there were a few other things thrown in, not to mention pure determination and bloody mindedness but im definately getting there.

Go for it girl!!!!!!!!

My father-in-law does hypnotherepy and has been doing it for many years now and i've asked him would he do some on me and he said NO, it wouldn't do it on any of his family. Looks like if I want some i'll have to pay for it LOL. Tara x

I had my first session of hypnotherpy last night for anxiety. I'm on venlafaxine. I think the meds just mask the problem but hypnotherpy is looking at your subconscience which isn't gonna change when off meds ( i reckon)
