I found a quote about anxiety that might just be the most accurate description I've ever read:

“Having an anxiety disorder is like that moment where your chair almost tips, or you miss a step going down the stairs; but it never stops.”

Also, I find this technique helpful in when I'm feeling particularly anxious:

breath in for 4 seconds
hold your breath for 7 seconds
exhale breath for 8 seconds
repeat once or twice more.
This causes an autonomic nervous system shift from a sympathetic (fight or flight reaction) state to a parasympathetic response.
