Smear test inconclusive

I turned 25 a few months ago and put off having a smear done because I was so scared but plucked up the courage and went, I got a letter a few days later saying its inconclusive and I need to go back in 3 months for another one. I'm so scared has this happend to anyone else?

It hasn't happened to me but it has happened to quite a lot of people I know and everything has been fine when they have had it repeated. I understand it will be worrying but the most common cause for repeating the test is not enough cells on the swab to be tested.

Yup happened to me twice and had it redone and then all ok

Yes I have had to go back becasue not enough cells were taken. It's quite common.

I had 4 consecutive inadequate smears over 3 years & ended up having a colposcopy... which came back negative!
Guess my GP just isnt great at doing smears
