so sad to hear of his death, in an apparent suicide.

Angry that we live in a society that on the news they just want to talk about his fame; why can't we discuss severe depression, no-- its not allowed.

It is.So sorry to hear this.
People say he had plenty of money and could have afforded lots of help, but I definitely think that fame has its own pressures, and it must be hard being in the public eye.
I thought his role in Good Will hunting was one of his finest.
I can watch that film time and time again, although now it will have an extra poignancy about it.

Orson (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0416850/?ref_=tt_trv_qu): The report, Mork.
Mork (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000245/?ref_=tt_trv_qu): This week I discovered a terrible disease called loneliness.
Orson (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0416850/?ref_=tt_trv_qu): Do many people on Earth suffer from this disease?
Mork (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000245/?ref_=tt_trv_qu): Oh yes sir, and how they suffer. One man I know suffers so much he has to take a medication called bourbon, even that doesn't help very much because then he can hear paint dry.
Orson (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0416850/?ref_=tt_trv_qu): Does bed rest help?
Mork (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000245/?ref_=tt_trv_qu): No because I've heard that sleeping alone is part of the problem. You see, Orson, loneliness is a disease of the spirit. People who have it think that no one cares about them.
Orson (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0416850/?ref_=tt_trv_qu): Do you have any idea why?
Mork (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000245/?ref_=tt_trv_qu): Yes sir you can count on me. You see, when children are young, they're told not to talk to strangers. When they go to school, they're told not to talk to the person next to them. Finally when they're very old, they're told not to talk to themselves, who's left?
Orson (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0416850/?ref_=tt_trv_qu): Are you saying Earthlings make each other lonely?
Mork (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000245/?ref_=tt_trv_qu): No sir I'm saying just the opposite. They make themeslves lonely, they're so busy looking out for number one that there's not enough room for two.
Orson (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0416850/?ref_=tt_trv_qu): It's too bad everybody down there can't get together and find a cure.
Mork (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000245/?ref_=tt_trv_qu): Here's the paradox sir because if they did get together, they wouldn't need one. Isn't that zenlack?

How absolutely devastating.

If reports of how and why he passed are to be believed, it goes to show that depression truly does and can affect anyone. They say money cannot buy you happiness and this seems to be ever so true.

As again if reports are to be believed that he has struggled with depression for many a year, it shows that much can still be accomplished, as he of course has accomplished so many great things.

My heart hurts for his family at this time. He has left behind a legacy filled with millions upon millions of smiles and hours upon hours of laughter.

Oh Captain, my captain!!

very sad news, robin inspired me so much in "good will hunting" and of course the inimitable " dead poets society" .. depression is still such a stigma, we won't hear much about it on the media, just tributes to a brilliant human being.
we need the courage as a society to talk about it openly!

I am heartbroken. He brought joy to so many people, but suffered so much himself. This is devastating.

It's painful to hear somebody committing suicide because of depression. It's very close to my heart, be it on a personal basis and for my campaign. I wrote this blog:

Sleep tight, Robin x

RIP Robin Williams.

I was lucky enough to grow up watching a lot his films (Aladdin (in which he was the genie), Jumanji, Flubber) - and Good Morning Vietnam was probably one of the first 'adult-rated' films I ever saw. I even remember the repeats of Mork & Mindy on Channel 4 in the summer holidays in the mid-nineties... nanu nanu.

My all-time favourite, though, is Mrs Doubtfire - more for the circumstances than anything. We watched the film as a family on holiday in Butlins and I had just had a fall-out with my sister immediate prior to the film over something childish/stupid. After it, we gave each other a big hug :hugs:

Oddly, I've never watched Good Will Hunting. Think it might be a bit too heavy for my liking, though...

RIP Robin Williams.

He was often seen as a quirky comedy actor but he could turn his hand to many roles as already mentioned in this thread, could show a serious side as in Good Morning Vietnam and portray a role that would appear to be quite the opposite e.g. One Hour Photo.

Who can forget Awakenings, great film!

I think fame does bring it's own pressures. I think it depends on the person because many celebrities who suffer mental health issues or drug & alcohol addictions are all too keen to cash in on it and these are the ones that trivualise it for the rest of us, but then we also have ones like this who are just suffering like we are/have and it reminds me that everyone has their breaking point and to remember that we are all ultimately the same inside.

RIP Robin Williams. I never really watched many of your films (I remember watching Jack as a child and night at the museum), but when a well known person dies it's always upsetting especially in this manner.

Although it is horrendous that it takes someone to commit suicide, it has sparked debate in the media and on social media regarding mental health and there has been huge backlash against people who have been critical towards depression and suicide, which in my opinion means thats out of a huge negative there has at least been some positive.

RIP Robin... Many great hours spent enjoying your amazing acting.

Like nearly everyone,I was shocked and deeply saddened when I heard the news of his untimely death, especially so in the way he died. Its something most of us here can empathise with.

I like a lot of his films,in particular 'Dead Poet's Society'. He was a very funny guy and I know I speak for many when I say I shall miss him.
