Yes, lots of people get this - search the forums! It is caused by the muscles around your throat being tense - don't worry, it can't choke you though.

Yes, perfectly normal, as you will probably tense the same muscles when you get anxious!

PRAYER FOR FREEDOM FROM SUFFERING

May all beings everywhere plagued
with sufferings of body and mind
quickly be freed from their illnesses.
May those frightened cease to be afraid,
and may those bound be free.
May the powerless find power,
and may people think of befriending each other.
May those who find themselves in trackless, fearful wilderness--
the children, the aged, the unprotected--
be guarded by beneficent celestials,
and may they swiftly attain Buddhahood.

Hi there,
I suffer from this and recently it was really bad although the doctor said it was anxiety related.
Mines came on suddenly and somedays its more obvious than others, because i've been worrying about other things just now, guess what, its not been as bad.
It's amazing the symptoms anxiety can give you , so try not too worry too much. Take care and have a lovely Christmas .

Hi Kate,

Please do not worry although I know it is easier said then done.
This is a classic symptom of anxiety.
I have it now still on occasion and had it for many years.
My symptoms tend to rotate in that I will have the globus hystericus ( hysterical globe) for a while and then heart thingys such as skipped beats and so on.
I know a speech pathologist who said it is all related to stress and anxiety.
My ENT doctor said the same.
So many people have this, Kate, so please take some consolation in that.
It will pass, so try to be patient and above all do not give it more power then it is due.
Merry Christmas from across the pond.

Hugs,

Soup
