Choked in dream and woke up breathless

Last night I dreamed about being choked. It woke me up and when I woke up I had to catch my breath. What is this? Was I choking from sleep apnea and my mind woke me up with a dream before I choked to death?

If I do have sleep apnea how do I avoid from choking to death as now Im a little freaked out about going to sleep now.

Have you ever been crying in a dream, and when you woke up you were actually crying your eyes out? This has happened to me several time in the past. It sounds like a similar thing, your body just acting out the dream you were having. You likely woke with a start, your body was awake but your mind still half in the dream hence why you gasped for breath.

The mind is a really powerful thing with things like this.
