coughing up loads of phlegm but no cough/cold/allergies?

for the past 4 days i keep having episode where im consistently clearing my throat for about 20 minutes. all this thin watery frothy phlegm keeps coming up even though i don't feel the urge to cough or sneeze answer my nose isn't running. it's just like loads of water coming up from my lungs or something and im scared it could be pulmonary edema or a sign of heart failure or something and:/
anyone have any idea why this might be. i talked to a doctor over the phone andshe couldn't explain it either.
it's making me so worried it is something serious. i don't really have any other symptoms apart from a tiny bit of shortness of breath...

really? wow. do you cough with yours or do you just get phlegm? gross sorry lol but it came on suddenly so it made me anxious. i seriously hope that's all it is. I've had acid reflux for a few years now, i take strong antacids but ive been forgetting to take them regularly. i really hope that's all it is, thanks.
