Hi there, since I was last on here I have completely cut out drink and feel much better and more fresh and I am thinking clearer. I also have started a full time job which I needed badly to get me back on track.

However the blasted dry heaving/retching symptom is still occurring at random times of the day as usual. I thought that if the alcohol consumption was causing this symptom then it would have stopped completely once alcohol was completely stopped as well???

Anyway I feel 90% better since I stopped drinking. I am due to see a specialist again in just over a week. I cant figure why I am still retching and heaving though.... This is the longest symptom I have ever had!!!

WELL DONE! I'm glad you feel so much better, good work. That must have taken a lot of will power.
It could take a while for the retching to go, otherwise it cold be a symptom of anxiety still. It could possibly be the alcohol has caused this in a chronic pain kind of way?
What is your diet like now? Still a lot of sugar and pop or is it better too?
It's an elimination game.

Also, there are loads of anti-emetics out there! When I started on ven I thought about asking my doc for something, but the nausea didn't last. He/she will know which one is best for you to try. Good deal, cutting out the drink. Saving yourself a lot of misery in life, you are! xx

Well done about cutting out the drink and on the new job-you have made huge strides.

Dry retching has always been an anxiety symptom for me and also for my Father. It's inconvenient and embarrassing but the more you think about it the more it will happen. I've always associated it with having a dry mouth however this is just my own experience.

The fact that you have given up alcohol will be so beneficial to you in all aspects of your physical and mental wellbeing. Well done again!
