I just got home from the ER. I ended up with severe right side pain and found out I have a kidney stone which doesn't surprise me because I've had several in my lifetime. While I was there my first bp reading was 130/81 and my second one before I left was 138/78. Years ago I had to go to a specialist because my blood pressure use to run so low. He just told me to eat more salt but that was just my normal readings. For awhile now though its been reading high like this which just isn't like me. Even at home it reads high on my machine here. Can chronic anxiety cause it to be high all the time? Or is it something else?

138/78 is not classed as high blood pressure. It is in the normal range.

that is not considered high, not only that but whenever I am in the ER my readings are ALWAYS higher. I had to go for my back the other week and it was 135-75 which is high for me.;

I always run around 115/80 and yesterday at a new doctor I was so nervous it was 145/85 ... yikes! But I know it was my nerves.

That blood pressure is definatly not high , I can't believe a doctor told you to eat more salt :wacko:

That's not high but it's above normal, it's called prehypertension by the American Heart Association. It should be less than 120 mmHg systolic and less than 80 mmHg diastolic. In the doctor's office or in an hospital setting it's a known and acknowledged fact by medical practioners that patients' BP's tend to momentarily increase...

Everyone is different but that's still within normal ranges.

That is a bit on the high side, and yes, absolutely, the state that the anxiety puts your body in, the constant stress and adrenaline, on the conscious and subconscious level, does in fact affect your blood pressure directly.

Obvious step for you is to take consistent measures to lower it - regular exercise, balanced food diet, regular sleep schedule and good stuff like that. :)
