I was getting my anxiety and panic attacks under control from having therapy and hypnosis until...

I suffer from Benign Positional Vertigo and I can wake up in the mornings and the room is spinning. I had this on Sunday and my mum rang and I told her how I was feeling.

She aksed me if I had had a cat scan done to check for tumours.

Well did my anxiety and panic kick back in. I am convinced now that the dizziness is coming from a tumour. I have had the vertigo on and off for 6 years and when I get it I just ride along with it and it never used to really worry me.

My mum always thinks of the worst and likes to tell you. The psychologist thinks that this could be a major factor in my health anxiety and panic attacks that I have been getting this year.

My mum doesn't know what I have been going through this last year with these attacks and I chose not to tell her as she tells the rest of the family.

I really needed to get this off my chest. I am going back to the ent specialist in January as he is trying to work out what is triggering it off, he is sure that it is the ears from the symotoms that I describe but he has never mentioned about having a cat scan or the possibility of it being a brain tumour so it has never worried me up until now.

I think that there are a lot of other symptoms with a brain tumour such as nausea and fits and you sound like you have been officially diagnosed with the vertigo. Surely if a doc was worried he would refer you for a scan!!!

Try not to worry thou i know thats easier said than done.

Hey there,
Try not to worry, as you have had this on and off for 6 yrs if it was a brain tumour you would not be here.
You would also have a lot other symptoms and if your doctor thought there was any chance ,he would have u straight in for a scan.
I hope you feel a bit better soon, and try not to worry too much, tc xx

Hi Deb, I have had BPPV for over 20 years, I thought I had a brain tumour but i didn't as you can tell I am still alive and kicking. I suffered really badly, the attacks knocked me out for days at a time, the meds you are given made me drowsy it was yuck. Then a miracle, I found out about a balance therapist who did exercises that retrained your brain and could help with the dizziness. i saw him and within a few days that awful spaced out feeling began to go. i could start doing things like dentists and hairdressers' sinks which were a nightmare, hanging out washing, shopping I could do them all without the dizziness. And better still after 17years of not being able to sleep on my right side I could sleep on my right side and not have an attack.
I still have the occasional attack, especailly if i am overtired or a little stressed, but I just do my exercises atraight away and i feel better within hours I can get up and go to work, before i had to take a day off.
if you want more info please PM me. Plese don't worry

Take care

hi Deb,

i wouldnt worry about a brain tumor. bpv has very specific symptoms... most patients feel fine when laying down but as soon as they move feel dizzy. they attribute this to problems with the inner ear. now, i dont know much about brain tumors as i havent studied that yet in school, but i would suppose that if you had a brain tumor the attacks of dizziness would not be related to when you moved, but just random, or even constant.

Hope this helps, feel free to PM me :-)
