Scared to swallow food

Hello can anyone just talk to me, I'm going through a rough time with swallowing food. I daren't swallow incase I choke, I kinda panic also and that stops the food going down. In afraid this is going to end up killing me. Incase it does actually make me choke. I'm hypoglycemic so I need my food! Can anyone relate?

Yes, I can really relate to what you're saying. When I go through anxious periods, one of my main symptoms is a feeling that I can't swallow and fear that I'll choke. In fact I've recently started to feel it again.

When I'm less anxious, I barely think about it. There is some information on here about swallowing, which I've found really helpful.

hey thanks for replying, does yours come and go? mine do but its gotten real bad, but like i say i HAVE to eat coz if i dont then i become ill, im scared itll actually make me choke one day

Yes, it does come and go. And I've realised that I can make it worse by concentrating on it.

My GP told me that it's a very common symptom of anxiety.
