Looks like if I wanted a colonoscopy I would need to go private. Which would cost me 2-4 thousand NZD. So $1500 - 3300 USD. :(

Which suggests that the doctors don't think it's necessary for you to have a colonoscopy. I would only have one if really needed to :/

You're right. I will hopefully get a referral to gastro at least. If an expert in the field thinks it's not necessary I will feel better. I will have too!

I assume that you've spoken to a doctor about something troubling you?

Yep
Rennie is right. Doc doesn't think you need one. That's the best outcome.

Hi
This is just a courtesy reply to let you know that your post was moved from its original place to a sub-forum that is more relevant to your problem.
This is nothing personal - it just enables us to keep posts about the same problems in the relevant forums so other members with any experience with the issues can find them more easily.

I just found out today that a Dr died from bowel cancer. He was only 33. I am so afraid. He had it and now he's gone.
Have you had blood tests? Faecal calprotectin test?
Much cheaper than a colonoscopy and will tell you if you actually need one - at which point, your doctor would refer you.
Again, as others have said, if your doctor hasn't already asked for these, he/she doesn't think you need them.

Last blood tests were all fine, they were about a month ago. Had another cbc done last week and when i called nurse she said they looked fine. Also submitted a FOBT on Friday which I will know results of on Tuesday when I see my GP
In that case, and assuming your FOBT is fine, you definitely don't need a colonoscopy.

Going to see doctor tomorrow. So nervous. No idea what results will show. No idea what next step will be

Went to doc today. Had results for CBC and FOBT - both fine. Of course I am still wondering what the blood could be from. Today I had stools that looked like they had black chunks in it too so of course worried. But, FOBT and CBC clear. What to do>
