Friends with Interstitial Cystitis (or bladder cancer)... I just got my urine culture test result back, showing that I don't have a UTI, but that there is still some bacteria in the urine. I certainly feel like something's wrong--mostly lots of burning in the bladder and lower pelvic area. The only time I'm not in pain is when I'm on the toilet, emptying my bladder. For that reason, I'm being sent to a Urologist.
I've done that thing I know I shouldn't do, and I've Googled bladder cancer. They say blood is almost always present in urine when someone has bladder cancer, and I was not told there was any blood in my urine. But I'm anxious nonetheless. You know how it is... once the Doctor sends me to a specialist, I begin to worry what sinister things they'll find inside me.
Does anyone happen to know what it means when a urine culture comes back negative, but there is still the presence of bacteria? And has anyone been through a cystoscopy before?

I'm trying hard to remind myself that my symptoms only began when temperatures here in Canada went down and I began to get really cold feet here at home. (There's a study linking IC with cold feet here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1345322)
Then there's also the fact that I have fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, and IBS, all of which overlap with IC. But I wonder, if I was susceptible to IC because of all these other conditions I have, then why didn't it start years ago already?
Anyway, isn't it exhausting that health anxiety makes us fear the last likely outcome and ignore the most likely explanation of our symptoms? A big part of my battle is making myself believe that the most common (and benign) explanation for my pain is probably the right one...
Still, if anyone can answer my questions above, I'd be grateful!!
