Hi I've been on 40mgs propranolol twice daily (80).
I take 40mg when I get up 8am and 40mg 12hrs later 8pm, is that right?
The reason I ask is im getting really bad night sweats and I'm not sleeping well?
Maybe if I take the second dose earlier it will help?
I'm also feeling alittle anxious? :(

Can anyone give me some advise please, many thanks Gav.

Hi Gav, you can ask for the whole day propranolol called Beta Prograne or also Bedranol SR. These last over 12 hours straight, so it should cover your whole day. Tablets last 4hrs

Hi Gav,

I take these when I'm having an anxious day. They work really well but they do give me quite a disturbed sleep. I find the benefit outweighs this so I've just got used to it. The times you're taking it look right to me.

Love to Mrs. Gav

Hi Pip! :)
Ive made a decision to just take one 40mg tablet in the morning, just until I see my doctor next. I'm sleeping fine now and no night sweats! But obviously I'm not taking the full dose!
I'm hoping to change to a 80mg slow release over 10-12hrs! That would work fine for me!
I definitely feel better for starting propranolol, it's kind of calming? But doesn't knock you out like when I was on Diazepam etc

Hope ur well!

Update on this, I've been put on 80mg slow release now.
Doctor said I can double up to 160mg if needed.

I take 40mg 3 times a day, but I can not take the 3rd one later that about 7pm otherwise I can not get to sleep. I try to remember to take them at meal times.

Since being on 80mg MR taken in the morning, my night sweats and vivid dreams have gone. I do find it hard getting asleep some nights though. Feeling tired, and lacking energy also, I think this is a common side effect though? Gav

Hi gav it's been a while!! Propranolol gave me awful night sweats too and the most the weird vivid dreams that I had to stop taking it, I also gained weight whilst on it but the sweats were the worst, I'd wake up swimming!!! Great to hear from you, I've not been on for ages but having a bad blip at the min, take care X X

If you are taking whole-day propranolol, you are likely to be tired. The function of propranolol is the so-called beta1 and beta2 blockade. The dominant majority of beta1 and beta2 cell receptors are on cells of the heart(b1) and lungs(b2). When propranolol reaches them (in blood circulation), it decreases the function of hearth (lower heart beat), and decreases the function of lungs as well (lower frequency breathing). Therefore, it is likely that you feel tired for your heartbeat was lowered and your breathing was lowered (for a reason; ask your doctor). You may gain weight, basically for the reason that you feel quickly tired when exercising or doing anything. I gained 30kg over 3 years, but I was truly lazy and was eating crap food. It is all about finding the right medicine for you. You should probably try a few or see a specialist if the medicine does not suit you. There are tons of medicines now available, but you might be struggling getting them on the NHS. :)

Hey Nicola, sorry your having a blip! :hugs: xx

I don't put weight on easily, just the way I am.
But I do feel zapped of life! My doctor wants me to go back on venlafaxine but I really don't!! I've been off it a year now!
Thanks for the info svojski85!
