Hi there everyone - ive only just joined so please bear with me!
For over a year now the panic attacks have manifested itself in my driving so thats the real concern at the moment although it always hops from one thing to another all my adult life!
Anyway i have been on venlaflaxine before but wanted to avoid meds again after it nearly caused my marriage to break up (my husband bless him is so NOT understanding about anxiety etc) from the side effects. I have now though resorted to trying Propranol, which first the GP put me on just 10mg twice a day which did not do a thing so has now upped it to 40mg twice a day (which he reluctantly did due to me already having low blood pressure - i know that low blood pressure and stress anxiety dont normally go together but hey ho i am different!!)
Well today is my first dose and i feel more breathless to be honest, so anxiety is kicking in. Has anyone else had this on the betablockers and does it go?
Any advice will be great thanks

I've been on propranolol for over a year now and they are so helpfull to me i take 20mg in the morning and thats it but i can take more. I honestly cannot remeber having any side effects and the tablets don't cause me any side effcets now. Hopefully they will wear off for you, but if they don't do go back to your doctor as each med can affect people in different ways. Good luck.

Take care Sarah x x

I was on 80mg 1x day last year and they dragged me down, making my anxiety worse. Everyone is different though and it might just be that you need to get used to them.

Good luck.

Hi,

I have been on toprol xl for almost a year, it has helped me a lot but it doesn lower your blood pressure which makes me very tired and cold a lot. I already had low blood pressure to begin with. Good luck!

I had to have slow release beta blockers, I passed out in the hair dresses and had some kind of fit, I think the shaking was anxiety myself, because i knew I was about to pass out! BUT on a positive note some loverly old lady woke me up shoving a mars bar and a coke in my face!!!!! Woohoo

I've been on Propranolol for a couple of months, under the name of Bedranol. 80mg tablets, and I was prescribed 2 a day. This greatly aided the anxiety, I didn't suffer a panic attack for over 2 weeks, even the general anxiety lifted. So much so that I thought I didn't need them, so just stopped taking them. BAD IDEA! They came back even worse, so I'm now back on them and waiting for them to get back in my system again.

Hi Nikki,

I was taking propanelol a few years back and I just couldn't get on with it. It really slowed down my heart rate, metabolism and made me feel lousy and lethargic. I changed to Prozac and a short course of Diazepam. The Prozac worked for me to get over depression (both 2003 and 2006 were dire years) and I have a small stash of Diazepam which I keep close to hand if I REALLY need them. One thing that I have noticed with Diazepam is that it seems to work quite quickly.

The main side effect I found with Prozac was on my libido, but apart from that, no real problems apart from the 2-3 weeks that it takes to start working. I've probably taken about 5 Diazepam in the last year but I'd rather not start taking them on a daily basis as it can be habit-forming (already got enough vices ;) )

As with yourself, my biggest concern is having a full-on attack while driving which is why I keep the Diazepam in the car. I think I know how you feel about that one; Ive had a few wobbles in the car, but not full-on.

I'm not taking anything at present, but am seeing a councillor weekly which I think is helping. I'm trying to get to the cause of where in my psyche this little lot is coming from and hoping that understanding that will help me get over it. If I need a short-term patch, I have the Diazepam.

Good luck,

R x
