Would it harm me to take Omeprazole if I didn't need it?

I was prescribed Omeprazole last week to see if this would stop my retching episodes. Say I didn't need to take this but I was given it anyway would it harm me if I didn't have any need to take it?

Thanks guys, I want to try it and who knows it may be related to stomach acid and maybe the retching will stop???

did you take the Omeprazole? Be warned if you take it for more three weeks you can suffer rebound acid if you suddenly stop taking it. That said it does work well for excess acidity. Dont want to scare you, but GPs tend not to tell about the rebound effects

Hi Calumcco, I often drink to much when I'm suffering from severe anxiety and was prescribed Omeprazole to reduce stomach acid and prevent ulcers, but even when not drinking I still take it. In my opinion it won't do you any harm to try.
