I was watching TV the other night and whilst flicking through the channels I came across a documentary called 'One Life' (if I remember correctly). It was about the life of an agorophobic woman and how she copes on a day to day basis. They arranged for her to meet a therapist and practised a little CBT and so on.

This was on one of the documentary channels on Sky, so I just thought I'd mention it (knowing Sky, it will be repeated about a thousand times). Was quite interesting to watch simply because this type of thing is rarely documented on TV like that.

Sorry I can't remember the exact channel it was on, but If I find out when it is on next I'll post it up.

Yes, It was pretty dire wasn't it . Showed the poor girl crashing her car into the camera car in front and she never did expand her boundaries. She spent most of the programme crying.

The CBT chap needed a good lesson in interpersonal skills too as I recall.

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up Meg, the whole thing could've had a better aproach. Just there is very little in the way of documentaries like this, so I thought people may be interested.

Anyway, I've been looking for it on the net and I found that it's on UKTV Docs, but it won't tell me when it's on next...typical.

I remember it as it was the first thing I saw on the subject of agoraphobia and remember being glad I was recovered before I saw it as it gave such a dim outlook.
The BBC website forums were awash with comments about it

See if you can't find Nics programme on there too..

I agree any coverage is good to watch so thanks for alerting us.

Anxiety is a thin stream of fear trickling through the mind.
If encouraged, it cuts a channel into which all other thoughts are drained.

Hi Mico

A lot of us watched it the first time round - there is a post on here somewhere about it. We all thought it was a bit bad how it was all portrayed.

If you come across Sky showing a programme called "Private Investigations" then I was on one of them, a short 12 minute programme about my fears of public transport.

Meg has seen it and Em borrowed the tape to watch.

Not sure they ever repeated it though!

Wow, TV star eh? I'll have to keep an eye out for that Nic.

And yes, I fully agree with your opinions on 'One Life'. Maybe though, it'll inpsire someone to make a documentary along the same lines, only better. There is very little media coverage of something that appears to be so common, it would be good to see more of this kind of thing creating more public awareness.

Mico - yes I was for a few months whilst we filmed it!

They ought to do some more programmes like One Life but make it more positive and show all the things that can help.

Oh well, one day maybe eh?
