Probable cancer

Hi, new to this, so please bare with me. I was/am having chest, shoulder and neck discomfort so I went for a CT scan and there was abnormalities, so doc looked into me having a PET scan with my ins. co. and they denied me😢. So now the next step is waiting until Feb. for another CT scan to see if there has been any new growth. Yes, I have smoked most of my life, quit 5 weeks ago. Too little too late maybe. Not ready to tell my family until I find out more. Going crazy in waiting. Hoping to find some comfort here. Thanks
