Hi Everyone I'm new here :D:welcome:

I really need some advice please

I have been taking mertazapine (30mg) for just under 12 months before taking them I was extremely depressed and underweight. Since being on mert my mood has greatly improved and I feel happy and content.. BUT

Being on mert has made me gain weight and from being so skinny before it's hard for me to see myself with a bit of a belly and bigger thighs:weep:
I go to the gym a few times a week and eat relatively heathy but cannot seem to shift the weight. So about 6 days ago I halved my dosage to 15mg. So far my mood is fine just feeling abit groggy. If anyone has been in the same or similar situation how long does it take for the weight to shift and when should I cut the 15mg to 7?

Thank you for reading :)

go as slow as you can when reducing it will stop you getting withdrawal symptoms, the weight should start to come off 3-6 weeks after stopping

You will still have to watch your diet and exercise though. That is what is so cruel about many of these meds; you can gain weight easily on them but getting it off is normally a lot harder as you will still need a calorie deficit.

Mirtazapine is some nasty shit. I took it for a month - didn't really help the anxiety, but made me eat like a pig and sleep like a cat. I then stopped taking it but it seemed to trigger the most horrible akathisia - so I've been back on it at just 3.75 mg since then. I'm still eating and sleeping loads but I know that I'll have to take months to come down off this small dose to minimise any withdrawal effects.
