I keep getting itchy palms (been going on intermittently for a few months now). They are not unbearably itchy - actually I don't even have to scratch them - but I can feel them tingling all the time.

I am really worried it might be something to do with my liver.

My doctor says it can be from anxiety, but I didn't have this symptom in the past and can't find much reference to it online.

I am so worried! Does anyone else have this?

Yep sadly I'm superstitious so rub them on wood, very very common whether anxious or not.

Are you itchy because you rub them on wood, or they itch and then you rub them on wood?

I am not doing anything to cause the itch (like rubbing them or excessive washing) so I worry it's my liver.

No rub them on wood when they itch, why would you think itchy palms are caused by liver disease.
Just been on NHS direct, nothing remotely bad regarding itchy palms

Because I Googled!

Also, I had itchy palms when I was pregnant and it was obstetric cholestasis, which is a liver issue. I am terrified that it was something more long-term, although the itching is nowhere near as severe as it was then.

And do you get the itchiness all day every day for several days, and then it goes away for a while? My last episode like this was about 6 weeks ago.

I think that if it was vaguely related to your liver then there would be a rash of some form, other symptoms which we want go into, not just itchy palms, did you have a rash before.
If you are really worried then please go to your Dr he is better able than anyone on here to give you a diagnosis.

No rash now or then. Have an appointment next week. An online doctor told me it can be caused by anxiety, so I wondered if anyone else had experienced it not being from a liver issue.

I think he was probably right, have you heard the saying itch scratch, itching causes histamine to be released and the more you scratch the worse it gets.
Did you pay for this online Dr ?

I don't scratch them. It's not actually that itchy! It's just a background itch, and I don't have to try hard to resist scratching.

The doctor was on Just Answer. I have a subscription! Can be very helpful at times, but nice to hear from fellow sufferers too.

Do you get your itchiness all day every day when you are anxious?

Not just on palms but on other parts of the body, legs neck etc.
I personally think those sites should be shut down, how can someone on the end of the computer who can't see you, can't here your voice do any physical test diagnose you.
If your Dr told you he didn't need you to go to his surgery for a check up would you have faith in him, I'm sure I wouldn't.
Also these Drs are not even in this country and for all you know they may not even be qualified just doing what many on here do now, checking Dr Google.
Sorry if you are upset by my comments but its my personal opinion only.
Go see your own Dr and remember you have already paid for the NHS :hugs:

Totally agree with you about some sites out there, but I think Just Answer is very good. They make it clear that they can't diagnose without seeing you, but they can offer advice on interpreting blood results, etc, and I know they are all qualified doctors (my other half registered as an IT specialist and had to jump through all kinds of hoops to prove his qualifications!).
Anyway, I will see my GP too. Thanks!

That's the main thing as I believe there's nothing more scary than some who doesnt see there Dr but rely on sites like these.
I'm sure you will be fine .
