I just got a book on my kindle.. It's an 8 week course in mindfullness.
Has anyone else had any success with anything similar?
It seems like it will be helpful :)

what is the title and author of the book?

Not sure which one they mean but there are 2 main models for 8 week Mindfulness which are:

1) MBSR created by Jon Kabat-Zinn in the US. This has a ton of studies over the years to show how it can help and change the physical structures in the right Amygdala (the fear centre) by decreasing density (in other words weakening its strength) and increasing density in the compassion centres such as the inula.

2) MBCT co created by Professor Mark Williams in the UK. This was based on MBSR with, I think, more of a CBT theme than MBSR.

There are privately created versions of MBSR by therapists but whether they are as good is unknown as they remain untested.

Each of the above have books out and Mark Williams has free downloads of his meditations in the resources section of his Frantic World website, but you really need the book to follow the course as it explains a lot and gets you to do some basic exercises to push the boundaries as you progress.

MBSR also has books out by other authors, some of which appear to have worked with the above guys. Many of them seem to come from the university in the US that Jon Kabat-Zinn set up his centre in many years ago. I think it was Massachusetts.

I know there is also a book on Amazon for about £5 right now by Michael Chaskalson that has taken elements from both programmes and gets an endorsement from Mark Williams.
