Chest pains/pressure thread

I don't know if this has already been done or not but I thought it might be a good idea for all of us with chest related problems to post the symptoms in one thread. That way we can feel better about our symptoms. I know I'm always looking for threads on this topic when I'm having a hard time of it. :D

Mine are:

Feelings of tightness throughout the entire chest and back area that hurts my back muscles when I breathe in

Tightness in left shoulder and neck

A pressure like feeling on the left side of chest

Occasional sharp or dull twinge on left side of chest

Dull pressure sensation that spreads to the left armpit

Shooting pains down the arm and wrists, occasionally neck...sometimes with chest pain on left side, sometimes without

Occasional burning sensation in center of chest (I think this is heartburn)

Feeling of a huge ball of tightness/tension throughout entire chest area

Hi Kimmie, exactly the same here.

How often do you experience this? With me over the last few months it has been most days, I'm due back to see the GP next week, hopefully some anxiety treatment will help.

That said I was told my condition may be both anxiety and costochondritus (inflammation of the ribs), so that could be complicating matters.

I know this is terrible when it happens, my thoughts are with all who suffer this, I hope it ends soon for all of us.

Hi Russ! For a while (about 2 years ago up until 6 months ago) it was the chest tightness, and muscle tension. I had the occasional twinge in the heart area. About 6 months ago came the dull deep constant ache and sharp shooting pains. The dull ache that spread to the armpit came one day and lasted almost every day for a a couple of months. Then the shooting pains would last several days off and on (but mostly on) and then go away. Now I get occasional things but thank goodness not all day anymore. I do still get some kind of feeling every day, but some are small.

Do you have any pain when pressing on the area? I have pain if I press on the ribs in some areas but it is no the same pain I am feeling.

Emma here, i know we've spoken on this forum a couple of days ago.

your chest symptoms are very similar to mine.

i'm currently experiencing a dull concentrated pain on the left chest area, and also tightness in the centre of the chest.
i have felt tightness across the whole chest
shooting pain down the centre of my chest
pinching feeling under my left arm as if the muscle is being squeezed, i've also had aching feeling on my left arm as well as pins and needles in both my arms and hands.
i've had pain in the lower sternum which i think is oesophagus related.
also sometimes when i eat my throat feels swollen and i can feel food going down my oesophagus.

what i've found helpful is shifting my focus. the rational thinking behind this is that these symptoms all have to be caused by stress and anxiety. one thing that everyone on this forum has in common are the symptoms and how long they have been happening. basically if there was anything seriously organically (diseased) wrong with us we would have gotten worse by now, but we don't it just stays the same.
if we start to look at these symptoms in a positive way, ie, what can we get out of this experience? one thing would be to ask, is this not my bodies way of telling me that things need to change? change the way we think and feel about ourselves and the way we live our life, that life is a gift and that we don't have to be fearful of anything. so if we focus on that fact that we are healthy individuals with so much to be greatfull for then surely this will start to settle these symptoms?
