Been feeling completely fine untill I put on the tv. First one I see is a advert about a stroke then a advert about smoking and risk of heart attack. Then u put on undercover boss and a lady's brother had a stroke. Then I put on Jeremy Kyle and someone's dad died of heart attack. Really not helping my health anxiety. Now u feel anxious. Please help.

If heart attack/stroke fears have been prominent for you, your mind has wired itself to see those stories more often. You'll probably find stories of so many different illnesses or events every day. But the only ones you'll notice greatly are the ones that fall into your current fears. Happens to me all the time.

I saw one early about stomach cancer I think, it was on about heartburn. The adverts are important cause people need to be aware. I know what you mean though. It is a definite trigger for a lot of people suffering with health anxiety.

I can't even stand hearing people talk about cancer or serious illnesses cause I worry it will happen to me.

I hate all the adverts that appear on TV like MacMillan nurses etc. etc. Every time there is a stop for adverts there is always one that mentions cancer in some form or the other. I don't think they realise how they distress people like us. On top of that there is also all the chunk post asking you to prescribe to one cancer charity or another. I never read newspapers and as often as I can I avoid listening to the news on TV.

They reckon they work because more people are visiting their GP's, but I do wonder what % increase of less important visits came with that.

I tend to find as a GAD & OCD sufferer, I get sick of them and think of them like adverts for products such as No! No! which are on far too much. So, I end up becoming desensitised to them and tend to switch over.

I do understand though because when I was at my worst with my first breakdown I would be triggered by certain TV adverts with alarm clock type sounds in and when they were current shows they would be advertised constantly.
