I have a panic disorder, and my GP gave me 40mg of propanolol to take daily, to help with my panic attacks.

However a racing heart has never really been one of my problems, and in fact now my heart-beat feels very slow.

I'd like to stop taking the tablets because I feel like they're not doing much for me, but I'm not sure how exactly to slowly stop taking them, and my GP isn't available for a while.

I've only been taking the tablets for a week, but I still want to carefully wean myself off them just to be safe.

Any advice?

I think you can just stop propranolol, as a lot of people take them as and when.

You should be fine to just stop.
I took them for 3months then stopped, now I just take them when needed.
No real side effects.

That's interesting Fireflies, I don't think ive ever come across anybody who suffers with panic having a normal heart rate, so what are your symptoms of panic if a racing heart isn't one? Can you tell us why you were given a beta blocker, as its normally prescribed to block the adrenaline from irritating the heart so i'm just curious to know why you were given it. But as others have said, after such a short time you can just stop it without any side effects, all that will happen is your heart rate will increase...but apparently this isn't your problem so you should be fine.

I also have a slow heart rate when having a panic attack and im also on propanolol. my symtoms are shaking inside. feeling like im going to black out and i cant sit still im always fidgiting. I told the doctor why do i have a beta blocker when my heart rate isnt that bad when im panicking but he said that it helps with all the symtoms and not just panic....I was taking 3 times a day 40 ml but now im just taking as and when. you will be fine just stopping them i never had any side effects doing so

I was given 3 a day but months later use as and when and that's fine.
