Hello,

I have been suffering from GAD for a number of years but wasn't aware of it until 1 year ago when it got so bad I couldn't cope. I am now in therapy for this.

Since I've been in therapy it has gotten worse, mainly as my therapist pointed ot because I spent mpst of my life burying my problems and now they are out there to be dealt with.

Recently..about 5 weeks ago I got dizzy/lightheaded and felt I would pass out. I have had this before when anxious but am now getting it all the time, except when I am really focued on something.

Is it weird to get this even when I am not feeling anxiety at the time? Now everytime I go out I worry about passing out. Last night I went to a play and had afull blown panic attack(rapid heartbeat, tingling, sweating , dizzy) , this was my first one. I got dizzy and was worried I would pass out in front of all those people and then it happened.

Anyways, this is my first post and I am just looking to see if others have had similar expereinces.

Thanks,
Maya

You are not alone. I have had that frequently for years. Yet I've never passed out. I fear it, and worry about it constantly. It usually starts slow, feeling somewhat imbalanced and grows exponentially from there. Sometimes seemingly for no obvious reason at all. Its very unsetteling to say the least. Usually, if its cold outside a brisk walk will ease the feeling.

Hello Maya,

Welcome to the fourm people here are great and if you use the search feature you can also answer a lot of your own questions without even asking them..

I too suffer from the light headedness dizzy crap :P It used to be VERY bad and after many many many tests from doctors and
and going to the hospital's and to see other doctors and still not getting any answers I have to now try to convince myself its nothing but anxiety.. it's hard but i know when i worry or focus on it it will get 100% worse.. So do your best and not worry or think about it.. Hard? Yes.. If i knew of an easy way to do it i'd tell you :P Feel free to send me a message if you'd like.. I DO know what it's like and It sucks!

Take care and good luck..

Well I have had this dizziness, light headedness for 40 odd years, off and on, more on than off, and when off it's always been there ready to pounce, but it's only 6 months ago that I found out it's GAD, it got so bad I now have agrophobia, and am seeing a therapist, who has helped a bit, but she said because I have had this monster for all these years it will take time to get rid of it, it's like a tape playing the same thing, and I need to rewrite it, but it's very hard, some days are better than others.

Hi Maya,

I have had the dizzyness like you for 10 years, and i havent passed out once, its very rare that people pass out with anxiety Hun, although i know it can be very frightening, when the dizzyness starts try to distract yourself e.g. do sums in your head, count colours on items, run up and down stairs, there are lots of different ways you can distract your self, also breathing techniques will help.

Here are some links that may help.

Hi Maya,
I have always been an anxious person, but over the last three years things have gotten worse. I find the more time I have to think about it, the worse I feel. Lately I have been really busy and have been feeling a bit better. The problem with this is that I never have any down time. I too get lightheaded even when I am not feeling anxious. It can be really scary. You are not alone. If you ever want to talk PM me anytime.
Take care,
Michelle

Hi There Maya,
Just wanted to say that you're not alone...I have the dizziness most of the time now for about a year...I know it's horrible.
Somedays are better than others and like a lot of people have said, if you try to focus your thoughts away from it, you'll find that it's not nearly as bad or completely disappears.
Please send me a PM if you would like to chat about it.
Take care,
SamJay :)
