Big toe nail has gone yellow and....

Half of the nail has gone yellow, the skin at the bottom of the nail is slightly swollen and tender, and the whole nail hurts like crazy when I stub it ever-so slightly. It has also stopped growing. What's going on? I noticed it's been like this for a few months. I have to PAY to see a podiatrist now since it's gone private (thanks Tory party, you goons) and I don't have the money to get it checked..

Anyone else had this? Or know what it is?

Sounds like maybe fungal but have it checked by doctor as it could be an infection that needs antibiotics or an ingrown toenail which can be sorted on the nhs. X
