Hi Everyone

I went to my gp today because I'd noticed a small lump in my salivary duct at the right side I also felt a lump over at the left expecting it to be one of my glands, but the g.p had felt inside my mouth and went behind me and felt my glands and underneath where the little stone is and afterwards he said it's inflamed and it's too big to be a stone I'll give you antibiotics (co-amoxciclav 500/125mg 21 tablets) if this doesn't take it away I'll refer you to the hospital to see if it's throat cancer, i was and still am mortified, no beaten about the bush or it might not be just like that and not even i wouldn't worry about it Peter.

Family and friends are trying to tell me not to worry but i said what if this was said to you.

I'm really thinking of getting a second opinion because he then began to tell me what bone in the neck to break to strangle someone and the name of the bone incase i'm playing scrabble now WTF!! Just to let you know he's the head of the practice at the surgery.

He's basically left me Shitting myself and the knowledge how to strangle someone proper and a good score on scrabble, sounds like a sick joke but this is what I've left the surgery with..

Please someone help ease the worry.. And i won't be surprised if you can't relate for crying out loud.

Petesy.

Hi Petesy.

I've had a blocked salivary duct above my left jaw since I was about 10 years old. It moves quite freely and when I'm unwell it swells and becomes painful. I had an ultrasound done all they years ago and everything was completely normal. Right it's the size of a pea. I can sometimes go a lot larger but it's never disappeared.
Not sure if its the same thing but mines is nothing to worry about so fingers crossed yours is the same! X

Hi Mrscurchill

Thanks for your reply

Yeah so you've had it a long time, ultrasound normal that's good news thanks , well i hope these antibiotics do the trick the gp also said I should see a difference within 4 days of the course so let's hope so.

Thanks again Mrscurchill

If it helps, I had a dr do a biopsy on a mark on my skin and he said "to rule out cancer" ... i panicked non-stop!!! Then I finally called and he said "I didn't think it actually WAS cancer, far from my mind really!" .... so a heart attack for nothing!

It is probably just a rule-out, we all have bumps in our mouths but at least you will have peace of mind :hugs:

Peter,

My big brother had a lump at the back of his throat and he had to be referred where the specialist said it could be anything from X to cancer. He also said that they have to say cancer because its always a possibility in a case like my brother's but it is highly unlikely.

They removed it under a general and then did a biopsy on it.

It was nothing. He has always done a lot of coughing due to an old issue with his nose and this caused it. It was an inflammation that simply wouldn't go. His GP had tried antibiotics prior to this with no success.

My dad has also been through something similiar which again was nothing but he was told there was always the possibility. It actually caused him to stop smoking...so in some ways that little scare was a big eye opener!

I think your GP was insensitive as I'm assuming he knows you have HA. Anyway, mentioning the big C to anyone doesn't make them go "oh, ok, no problem", it results in distress. I'm sure FMP would agree because I can't see how anyone could hear something like this and not get worried, but normally a doctor would also explain the likelihood which is often that it is rare.
