I speak fine, from what I have noticed, however I realized my tongue is scalloped on one side, looks like it has teeth marks.

I have no issues eating or drinking or talking but I am scared this is ALS as i twitch all of the time.

does anyone else have this? I am going over the edge

O wow just noticed my tongue is scalloped too I noticed it a couple days ago. It could be linked to thyroid issues have you had yours checked? I just got mines checked last week so it's not because of that I think mines came from clenching my teeth in my sleep I've recently started doing this and I think it's from being stressed all day at night my body is still in an anxious state hence the clenching of my teeth while sleep. I don't think it's a als issue as you would have way more symptoms than twitching and a scalloped tongue.

check closely... the scallops match the teeth indents. I have it too.

Hi Worrywart,

Thank you so much for your insights, I am seriously having a bit of an ALS meltdown.... I do clench my teeth as well, but the indents are WAY more prominent on the left side which is what worries me. But who knows? Maybe that is the side I like to clench..

Hope you are doing okay with your worries

Best,

Lilly

UGH, now I am noticing that I bite my tongue when I talk. When will this fear go away?

I've been biting my tongue when talking too wow can't believe we have the same symptoms I was worried my tongue was swelling which caused me to check out my tongue every five minutes for changes. Ughhhh I hate this.

Hi Worrywart ( I like your name)

How old are you? I find it reassuring that we have the same symptoms as ALS is a highly unlikely condition.... we may on the other hand have TMJ...

Do you twitch as well?

I'm 29 and thanks. I was considering Tmj due to the constant discomfort in my cheek bones and jaw. Now that I noticed the tongue issues I'm almost convinced. I haven't started twitching but I'm sure since we spoke about it this stupid anxiety will cause me to start feeling twitches. I hate that every symptom I hear I start to feel. I highly doubt it's als simply because that disease is completely life altering you wouldn't be wondering if you have it you would know

It's not ALS. If you had muscle atrophy in your tongue you wouldn't have talked fine. You probably have tmj due to anxiety or a big tongue. There can't be muscle atrophy without significant weakness. You're me 2 months ago, I still worry about that, but if you had ALS you would have known.

My tongue is like that too. I think it has to do with TMJ. I grind my teeth constantly not just in my sleep. I also noticed it is worse when I haven't had enough fluids. It seems to be very common.

Hey Lilly,my tongue is the same and I get twitches on it everyday but consultant said my tongue looked fine.I have my teeth closed tight all the time because I'm so tensed that's where the marks come from. One side of my throat is still tight when I swallow but I have started to put weight back on so that makes me feel better.I have had a scalloped tongue for about 10 years you will be fine.

You don't have ALS. Twitches related to ALS are caused by dying muscle tissue and as my doctor would say it gets progressively worse. It doesn't come and go. Well that's what he said before he retired and I had ALS. Or was that when I had MS? Actually it was both. You need to stop looking at your tongue. The more you look at it the stranger it will look. Btw it would be interesting to know how many people here have been convinced they have ALS. I go through long periods where I don't come here but I have yet to see anyone confirm that they actually have it.

Hey guys my fear is still here, I'm convinced that this scallop tongue isn't normal because it is like permanent as in it doesn't go away.. Also the side that is scalloped looks kinda weird and isn't smooth... and has fissures. It hasn't progressed in months ..... So it probabaky isn't atrophy right?! I wish I never read stupid bfs sites... As I can't find any reliable info about scalloped tongue and als

Weren't you evaluated by a neurologist who gave you the all clear?

I understand health anxiety can cause doubt at reassurance from a medical professional, but come on, ALS wouldn't be something a nuerologist would ever miss. You need to just take their word for it and stop trying to find info on this link with ALS, you'll only drag yourself further into your own worries.

You're fine, a neurologist is a specialist in brain activity and disease, if you had even a slight chance of having ALS they'd spot it with their eyes closed.
