I am so worried, I had a scan on Friday as I thought I had gallstones but she said no gallstones and gallbladder is fine but today I received a letter from my GP surgery to say an appointment has been made for me to see a specialist in 8 weeks time as a cyst has been found in my liver (not sure if it means in or on the liver) but I'm so scared it is cancer. Surely, I wouldn't have an 8 week wait if they thought it was cancer? I know cysts can be benign which is what I'm hoping but am still very worried nonetheless.

I cannot help worrying about the fact that my doctor is referring me to a specialist about the discovery of a liver cyst (which was found by chance as I was being checked for gallstones). If he thought the cyst was nothing to worry about then why is he sending me to a specialist? I am really panicking and worrying over this.

Because they check every pimple nowadays, he is also not a specialist in the liver so want know the correct treatment for it and want to give you the wrong meds.
A liver cyst is fluid filled so is not cancer, they can see solid masses as well but you don't have one, they may even drain it, you have probably had it all your life.

Sorry for the delay in replying. Yes, that is what my GP said, that i may have had it from birth but am now waiting for the results from my MRI scan which are due anytime now.
