Pain around the throat area

So for the last week or so now, I've had a really bad pain around my throat. It's not a sore throat kind of pain, it's basically on the area of the throat that you can touch on your neck, to the left and slightly up of the adam's apple. There's a tender area there, but even without touching it, one minute it's fine, then the next is an almost squeezing pain that then radiates around my jaw and even up to my ear and head sometimes. Has anyone else had this? It feels almost muscular? But it's like deep in the upper throat muscles as opposed to on the surface.

Have you tried a private physio if you think it's muscular or tendons, they can tell straight away and alleviate the pain?
