Recently I've had a lot of trouble breathing, especially at night and will hopefully speak to my GP soon about it. However in the mean time I've been trying to ignore it, and as breathing exercises don't work for me and relaxation make me basically have a panic attack the more muscles I relax a few things I've found that help a bit are:
Humming or singing to myself. I'm a terrible singer but somehow this still sooths me. Maybe this is why we sound better to ourselves haha! I don't know if it relaxes your muscles or what but it seems to help a bit.
Eating something cold, bit that's fairly solid seems to help the feeling of having lots of mucus or stuff in my throat blocking my airways.
Hope this helps!
