Hi everyone,

I'm new here, but I was wondering if anyone has asthma-like symptoms with their anxiety. It feels like my throat is closing down near my thyroid, and I have trouble breathing sometimes. It's not like hyperventillation -- it's just the inability to get a good, deep breath (a lot like asthma). Can anxiety cause asthma? And has anyone had these symptoms last for a whole day or longer?

Thanks in advance,

Lara

Funny you should say that, I seem to be having an anxious time at the moment ( my moods seem to fluctuate violently). My main issue is ectopics which drive me mad but recently and especialy yesterday I had this stange feeling that I couldnt breathe properly. It was an effort to get enough air in. I am sure that the more I thought about breathing the harder it became, classic anxiety stuff I suppose. Personally once I recognise that I am inflicting this on myself I am part way there. I have noticed that I am fine when I first wake up and all my issues gradualy build up during the day. I hope it helps to know that there are lots of us in the same boat to a certain degree, best wishes.

Thanks, Steve. I'm still having trouble with the same symptoms today, but I'm almost convinced it's the anxiety causing it. I appreicate your post.

Best,

If the problem continues it is always worth a doctors check-up.

However, the sensation is well known in regards to anxiety, the doctors call it "Globus Hystericus", basically the throat gets tight due to tension, but it is harmless, despite the "nasty" feeling it gives.
