View Full Version : Hiatal hernia/gerd
I posted a question recently about why decaf teas or coffees shouldn't be ingested by hiatal hernia/gerd patients. Someone told me it was because it contains gastrin which was very informative. What I'm wondering is if anyone knows a good alternative since I really miss having tea especially. Or is there a medication to lessen or prevent symptoms? Please let me know. Thank You!

Does anyone have any idea what alternatives there are or meds to counteract gastrin?
If anyone can help out, I could really use a response. Thanks

Well I found this very interesting as I have always been told that decaffinated tea (so long as it is organic) and decaffinated coffee are much better for you than ordinary tea and coffee. I have certainly found this myself and I have gerd for years. Also decaffinated is much better for your heart.
Hi, I have mild gerd diagnosed by a endoscopy one year ago. Was put on omeprazole but have recently had really bad stomach burning and under left rib. Today I drank decaf coffee for the first time and have really bad burning pain!
Help1989 I was told that even decaf versions have gastrin which irritates gerd or hiatal hernia. Gastrin is a hormone. Apparently some ppl can drink decaf without a problem as an alternative to caffeine but not everyone. I can occasionally have decaf tea but not as often as before & I don't get burning. I get a gastric acidic pressure.
