I'm sure many of you have had an IV before... Just recently I have had a few for different tests, and each time I notice that I get a heartburn-like pain whenever they do the saline flush. It just feels like a burning in my chest, and then seems to go away after a while.

Anyone else experience this or know what it is? I asked the nurse today and she said she's never had anyone say that before...but since it's happened every time, it seems odd?

They are doing it too fast is all. I have had six picc line, a central and numerous saline locks. Saline lock takes the least amount to flush.

Thanks, Davit...I hope that is it! It worried me when she said she's never had anyone tell her that before...Was hoping it wasn't a heart-related issue.

I just usually grit my teeth and accept it. Some nurses are rough. I once asked a male nurse if he was a carpenter before, he said yes and got mad. Some times I speak too fast.
