Hi everyone. It's been a while since I've been on this site. My health anxiety is in full swing and I'm seeking reassurance which I know will only make it worse but I'm consumed with fear. My tongue has been twitching on the side. I decided to look at my tongue in the mirror with a flashlight (brilliant I know) and I noticed that the tip of my tongue on the right side has a steady twitch. It almost looks like my heartbeat. What scares me is that I can't feel it. It is very small and its non stop for a week now. That side of my tongue also looks smaller than my left side. Now I'm imagining my speech is changing and my spit is going down the wrong way. I've had a major ALS fear in the past and its coming back big time. Can someone tell if they have had this tongue twitch and is always there?

Hi RoseEve,

I was reading up on TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Disorders) today, which is an issue with the joint in the corner of your jaw. It's a fairly common condition and I noticed that tongue twitching was one of the symptoms of this, along with difficulty swallowing and other throat issues.

Some dentists specialise in this and are able to treat it effectively without surgery. Obviously I'm not a doctor and have no medical background, but if it's this then it appears there's nothing serious to worry about.

Hope you feel better soon :)

Hi RoseEve, Sma81 is right. There are many reasons to have tongue twitching. I'm having out of control twitching in pretty much my entire body ATM. It's very unnerving but when I consulted a neurologist he didn't seem concerned and even said it's likely stress related :)

First people who suffer with health anxiety shouldn't look in there mouth or go searching as u always find something odd or asking urself is this normal, everytime I do flash light job I see a ulcer or a mark or something and I panic and feel sick heart racing etc etc, so first stop that and if u was holding ur tounge out or stretched it by turning it over it does twitch as it's not supposed to be stretched out and makes it have tension, like a contracted muscle after a work out may twitch, it's comoletly normal so stop worrying and get this stupid als fear our ur head if u had it u wud know about it, ur body would be shutting down rapidly, u don't have it fact so stop wasting ur life worrying about something your never going to have , keep positive and stop searching :roflmao:
