insomnia or sleeplessness

Hi
I was looking for info about getting Zopiclone privately, as my GP does not like
prescribing it. My insomnia became chronic after i was prescribed Ramapril -
for high blood pressure and for 18 months I could not sleep for a really chronic cough. I became totally exhausted and generally run down and was unable to socialise because of my tiredness. At times I was almost suicidal for want of sleep. I now am unable - totally - to sleep naturally. Does this comes under anxiety, panic etc?

To get Zopiclone you are going to need a prescription from a doctor as it's a Prescription Only Medication (POM) so it is illegal to dispense it without one. Likewise it is illegal to import it to the UK. (Although there are some very areas with POM's are Schedule 4 banned substances which are confusing from the Misuse Of Drugs Act and what the MHRA have said in the past hence importation is a question to ask the correct authority, in this case the MHRA) But I really would look for an alternative and would advise against this.

Could you see a different GP? Otherwise you could perhaps pay to see a private one or psychiatrist. But they are "habit forming" so they won't want to prescribe they long term.

Are there any other longer term solutions you could try? Or can your medication be switched to something that doesn't cause this side effect?
